GAY REDNECKS: True or False?
Archive: Richard Evans Lee
Email communication from TheMuscleDude@aol.com:
IS IT TRUE THAT YOU GUYS THAT WORK THERE ARE GAY-REDNECKS???
Gordon my partner and Yance our clerk are heterosexual. I am gay (or something along those lines). Though born in Savannah Georgia of redneck stock I somehow never acquired the vocal or visual qualities of a redneck.
Mr. Dude I imagine was drunk and sought to enliven his evening with a witty and telling email.
What prompted him? Perhaps he had been in the shop and found his treatment dissatisfying.

I was raised among folks most people would call rednecks. But tend to reserve the term for a certain style of self-congratulatory ignorance.

I am a gay redneck. I own a gun. I drive a truck. I own a confederate flag that says “Heritage Not Hate”.
If a pundit on TV says we should be pushed back in the closet I don't call the HRC, I load my shotgun and welcome them to try pushing me anywhere without a fight. I grow my own food and my own eggs and I hunt my own meat. I don't trust the government. Why should I trust them?
I wish gay activists would be more loud and proud, and more open to working class people who can't afford $500 champange breakfasts.
I am a gay redneck. Proud of it.
Feel free to share your feelings about GAY REDNECKS: True or False?. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted.
This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
