Selling on Biblio
Archive: Online bookselling
I won't pretend we've been making big bucks from Biblio but we're making enough to continue listing on the site. Biblio is one of the two places we list where what we pay is based solely on how much we sell. The other hasn't proven worth it. We'll stay with them for now because there is the inevitable problem. No site will be able to sell used books if enough are listed.
Most used bookdealers won't experiment with a site like TomFolio or stick with low paying venues even if the revenue is slim. The help maintain the problem many of them spend hours bitching about on email lists: dependency on three main sites.
We've sometimes sacrificed time and even cash we probably shouldn't part with. Other used bookselling websites aren't going to appear by magic. Especially now that senseless venture capital spending on web commerce is gone.
Biblio has problems. The bookdealer menu is too heavily loaded. Someone with an idea of usability and accessibility needs to scrap the page and redo it. They need their own security certificate and or secure server. At least that is my own guess from the warning IE gives me at times. The certificates used to be expensive but became much cheaper last year. When we had that problem we'd get fearful emails from customers wanting to pay for something but afraid their credit card data was about to be broadcast to thieves at large.
Give Biblio a try. They aren't going to give me a penny for suggesting that. If indeed they should ever know that I did.

Biblio really needs to get the dealer menu redesigned. ABE's is nicely compartmentalized.
Just saw the affiliate program (or whatever they call it). ABE has had an affiliate program for some time but I've never seen a site running it. Or even a mention of it and I do read about that sort of stuff.
Feel free to share your feelings about Selling on Biblio. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted.
This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard

I love Biblio. An underdog, but working really hard to distinguish themselves and doing a really good job. They have unique features and Brendan is helpful. What else could I ask for? Well, sales would help. But like you, I know that they will never do well unless enough sellers stick around to make it worth while for the book-buying public.
By the way. Have a look around that over-stuffed booksellers' menu. Biblio will, sort of, pay you a penny for recommending them.
