Goodbye Australia?
Archive: Online bookselling
We’ve had several shipments to Australia lost in the last couple of months. We’re thinking about refusing to sell books to Australians unless they are willing to pay for airmail or global priority mail.
Seems a little harsh but for us sending books to Australia has become something we lose money at.

It was a bit of surprise to find this here.
I think we are going to force people to use Global Priority or refuse to sell them the book.
Glad your book arrived.

It's interesting, the problem seems to be in the US to Down Here (Australia, NZ) leg, rather than vice versa. We can send things to the US by economy/cheap rate and have them arrive in between 7 and 20 days. I've just received a parcel from a friend in the US that took three months to get here.
My theory is that USPS uses sea turtles for economy shipping. You may want to suggest that look into up-dating their economy shipping metho (maybe little outboard motors for the turtles?).
Or then again, given the size, inertia and ineptitude of the USPS, perhaps not.

Packages arrive in Taiwan and Japan quickly and without hassle. I suspect the problem with Australia is that they aren't a major trading partner so there isn't such a ready means of direct carriage by boat.

We have NEVER had anything lost in the mail. I can't believe the USPS. They mess up packages, even have run over some (truck tire prints), but they do get through for us. Even surface mail to Australia gets through = after 8 or 9 weeks. Now Indonesia! We don't get paid and have stopped accepting Indonesian/Nigerian orders!

We didn't for a long time but actually lost money dealing with Australia for a couple of months. I have no idea how much the USPS may be to blame. I imagine the problems occur after the packages have left the US.
Feel free to share your feelings about Goodbye Australia?. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted.
This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard

Great news, I received my book on Culloden today!!! Just rushed home to tell you. Thank you for sugesting you would replace it or refund the money. Thankfully you don't have to.
Please don't refuse sales to Australia. Just realise that they come by canoe and take about 2 to 3 months by 2nd class mail, longer by sea mail.
By all means STRONGLY suggest the extra cost of 1st class is worth it!!!
And let the buyer know how long it REALLY takes. But don't cut us off from your great service!
Thank you for the book, now to read it!
Rob.
