Straight women love queers

Amorous Pop Culture , • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual

`Queer Eye' gets rave reviews -- from straight women:

Indeed, Bravo's ratings are soaring among adult women, the channel's target audience. Credit for that goes to "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," the all-male makeover show that's been described as a cross between "Trading Spaces" and "Will & Grace."

No big surprise, my earlier weblog entry on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has lots of comments from heterosexual women who are delighted by the show.

Acceptance = assimilation = commodification.

I'm a straight woman and I love QEftSG. The Fab 5 are SO adorable. They are funny, charismatic, articulate, good looking, confident ... but what I really love is how kindhearted they are. Despite all the ribbing, you can tell they have a lot of affection for the guys they are helping out. And it is true that women love gay men. Maybe a psychoanalyst could come up with a better explanation, but I think that(stereotypical) gay guys are just a lot of fun to be around. (Stereotypical) gay guys are interested in the same things women are: having lively conversations, always looking one's best, and keeping a nice home. These are three areas where straight men in our lives are often sadly deficient.
I think some of the straight women love Queer Eye because we hope that the slobs we call boyfriends will take a tip from 5 knowledgable guys , Plus Carson is hilarious and Thom I want to do crrrrazy things to. sighhh it makes me wish i was a gay man.
Hey, what happened to Jai??? My favorite is no longer on the show??? How can this be?? He was the best looking gay guy i ever saw. Who's responsible for this casting mess??? No one will believe it's really 5 gay guys anymore, because Jai's replacement looks like a makeover gay guy (no offense, but Jai's a tough act to follow. BRING HIM BACK!!!!!! Pullease!
I absolutely love QE. Of course, I'm a female, and straight. Which one of us DOESN'T like to see a happy ending? Sure, it's campy--only about half the gay guys I know are like the Fab 5--but if you watch long enough, you do get to see that the Fab 5 are trying to give straight guys some good long-term advice. And the "victims" had a great time(read the follow-up interviews, people). Most of the drama is for that one big night, not for every day. The jokes and the stereotypes are part of the fun of it. It's the gay guys time to make the jokes first, not the homophobes. Cheers queers!
I am a gay man in a woman's body, and I cannot believe QE hadn't been thought of before! It is the most brilliant show EVER, and my boys and I adore every episode! Of course, not every fag is like the Fab 5, but there's nothing wrong with promoting a positive stereotype. These men are the creme de la creme, and I am happy to hear that they've been renewed. Genius!
JAI IS SOOOOO F***N HOT!!!! Y O Y DOES HE HAVE TO B GAY?
All i have to say is that these 5 fine lookin but sadly gay men are the best thing thats happened to television since the playboy channel. its like playboy for women. Even though the are gay i still want there bodies. i seriosly am in love wit kyan and jai so all you ladies out there heres the plan. Lets all get sex changes and move to new york. NOW HOWS WITH ME. signed, seriously in love with the fab 5 well just 2 of them
I must admit, this show is funny and it offers some good tips (not that i need them though, but my plight is feeling sorry for the other four gay guys who will lose their 15 minutes of fame when the show's ratings go down. i understand this show is geared towards faghags and teenage girls, but do they really have to aim the ads at single rich white people?

has jai left the fab 5? some one tell me you got me all worried
is it normal for straight women to have such an attraction to "gay men"? i seem to find them cute or totally sexy.
I feel sorry for all the gay guys out there who are nothing like the "perfect" guys on the show. Maybe they're not so flamboyant, maybe they don't look so good... or whatever. Surely the last thing they need is yet more impossible ideals to achieve / live up to? There's already too much of that shit around...
I'm a bisexual woman and, I hope this term doesn't offend anyone, a faghag. I love gay men and they love me. Most of my friends are gay men. I personally think my connection w/ gay men is that we both love penises (or should the plural of "penis" be peni?). I love women, too, but in a very different way than men. I also think watching two men having sex is a huge turn on. A lot of straight women agree w/ me there. I totally understand what straight guys are feeling when they say they love watching lesbians, and not just from the aspect that I'm attracted to women. But I understand the excitement and eroticism of watching two bodies that you are attracted to be sexual together.
"QUEER EYE" IS THE BEST SHOW IN THE WORLD!!! I LOVE GAY GUYS!!! THEY ARE JUST SOOOOOOOO CUTE & TALENTED!!! I DON'T KNOW HOW I EVER LIVED WITHOUT THIS SHOW;YEAH I DO,BE BEST FRIENDS W/ A GAY GUY!!! HOLLA***
I'm a straight woman and think the stereotypical Queer Eye sets "The Cause" back 100 years. Same with the Jack character on Will and Grace. Personally I've only known two gay men who even come close to fitting that mold. Maybe someday we'll grow up enough to accept REAL gay men on TV and not these silly caricatures.
Well I just wanted to say that I am a guy, and my girlfriend was like I wish most guys dressed like the guys from "queer eye for the straight guy" but if we did dress like them wouldn't we come off as gay men too? I was just vurious to know if someone could send me pictures of clothes I could start wearing that would be nice to wear occasionally and out to dinner types of things, I would really like to see my girlfriend happy of what I wear thanx
Hey Brandon, check out dudes like Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, and Fred Astaire. Those old Hollywood movie stars of the 30's and 40's have been the classic icons of male style for decades. Google's 'Images' search engine is a good place to look for pics. Have fun :)
I LOVE the fact that many straight women like gay men because I was and have always been a "gay" man who was attracted to women. I have given into my bisexual urges and am totally into women!!!!! I now want to meet a great lady that can show me what a loving relationship is like with a women. I am 34 and I want to get married and have kids! How is that for a SWITCH!!!!
I'm a female who just learned my boyfriend is bisexual. He never told me, but has told other people that he is open to loving both men and women. I have not said anything to him yet. I'm very suprised and confused. Our relationship seems great and he tells me he loves me very much. He even asked me to marry him, but I waited to wait. Now, I don't know what to do. I love him very much also, but what hope do we have of making our love last. I wish he had told me sooner. If anyone has some advice for me, please I would appreicate it. I'm new to all this. I'm fairly open minded, but I'm not personally turned on by men having sex with other men. Many friends are tell me that he will want to bring men to our bed in the future for MMF group sex. Is this a common, yet important bisexual practice?
Speaking as a bisexual man: we are just as monogamous as heterosexual and gay men. I lived with a woman for five years and was faithful. Though in the end she wasn't. I've been living with my gay for over three years. Again I'm faithful. Just because I can love both genders doesn't mean I will cheat on either.
In response to JHallam~ I think you will find endless womenwho would love to be your soulmate and have a family together---you're the ideal for those of us who are drawn to the character and personality of gay men..I'd love to meet you myself. : Posted by: JHallam on April 5, 2004 10:08 PM I LOVE the fact that many straight women like gay men because I was and have always been a “gay” man who was attracted to women. I am a straight, mature woman in a very loving and long term commitment, who has met, befriended and much to my surprise... fallen seriously in love with a gay man (over the past few years). He is very much my junior (21 years younger), and as wonderful and dynamic as the Fab 5 all rolled into one. Please trust me and hear what I say in the spirit that I share it-- bittersweet wisdom learned from longterm unrequited devotion...loving gay men and being in love with a gay man are two very different experiences. I am blessed that this incredible man is mature enough and sensitive enough to understand my feelings for him and yet, still offers me great love through friendship. However, nothing could have prepared me for the broken hearted feelings that I live with 24-7 since falling so hard. And most regretably, I cannot find my way home again. Being a faghag to a special man can be the most lovely of relationships, however...when emotions become real, can change in an instant when due to the obvious it becomes unrequited and one sided 'affair of the heart'...

How do you feel?
