Übersexual Men
• Gender Studies
In The Future of Men Marian Salzman, Ira Matathia and Ann O'Reilly introduces us (well, really marketers) the the übersexual. (Salzman I'm familiar with as a practitioner of marketing gender studies for J. Waltet Thompson.)
What distinguishes the übersexual?
And unlike metrosexuals, "übersexuals don't invite questions about their sexuality." The authors recently released a list of the "top 10 übersexuals," with Bono at the top, followed by George Clooney and Bill Clinton.
Don't invite questions? Well, how many heterosexual men do? Out and proud of it gay men don't exactly invite questions.
I guess they mean that unlike the metrosexual no one questions the sexual orientation of the übersexual? No one questions metrosexual poster boy David Beckham's sexuality (just who he has been sharing it with).
From the three examples all I can guess is that the übersexual man is rich and famous.
Eh? Does he want his moisturizer made from pig fat?"Men in my view don't want products that are derivative of female products," she said. "They want things that are male rather than female."
Ms. Salzman said that übersexuals would also stand out as a distinct group, distinguishing themselves by reading Esquire or Sports Illustrated, shopping less but more discriminatingly, and favoring men over women as their closest friends.
I would've thought Esquire metrosexual but I haven't seen a copy in many years.
Yeah, what man would want to hang out with women except for sex?

Übersexual… Nazis like words with über too: Übermensch etc. Are there untersexual men too in this “trend”?

Übermensch was Nietzsche. A distorted version of his philosophy was appropriated by the Nazi Party. Really the Übermensch was someone who felt tremendous joy in life.
A common English translation of the word at one point was superman. Probably what the marketers are playing with. Seemingly a fancy way of saying butch.
Hoping to appeal to the kind of man who is spooked by the thought of being considered metrosexual.
