Autogynephilia is a dirty word

Gender Outsiders: Transgendered & Others

The Ambiguously Gendered section of my personal weblog is a testimony of my feelings about transgendered gay men*. The moment I heard of J. Michael Bailey, author of The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science of Gender-Bending and Transsexualism I figured he was just a naοve straight man with an academic degree and a rotten scientist.

Deirdre McCloskey's article in Reason reveals him as an ally of the conservative Clarke Institute promoters of the evil, silly notion that heterosexual transsexuals suffer from a disorder they label "autogynephilia."

Gays are faggots, right? And former men like me who have changed gender, well...they're just extreme faggots, or sex-mad nut cases. Northwestern University psychologist J. Michael Bailey, whose new book has created quite a stir, believes both of these ideas. ...

His main evidence for the femininity of gay men (aside from that study of how queers say the two s sounds in science) is a Scientific study of personal ads in some gay newspapers. ...

The sample [of seven] was collected by what looks like a violation of federal law. Northwestern's Office for Human Research is investigating. No one was offered a human subjects form to sign, no one was told she was under study, and no one was told her story would appear in a book. The subjects were enticed by the offer of a document crucial for their gender change. ...

Queer Science A data-bending psychologist confirms what he already knew about gays and transsexuals

Earlier: Prof. Bailey's junk science book and The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science of Gender-Bending and Transsexualism.

* Actually all transgendered persons have my special respect and warmest wishes. One slice of them is simply of stronger interest to me personally.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Autogynephilia is a dirty word. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
