An unhappy but fair reading of why the Republicans will likely remain if not become more dominant in American politics.

Among the best measures of how people voted in 2000 was church attendance. People who attended church regularly overwhelmingly supported Bush; those who didn't went for Gore. ..

The 2004 Democratic nominee probably will cede the South and border states, as Gore did, because Democrats are too secular and too culturally liberal. ...

Republicans will win because, by and large, Americans are libertarian. Excluding the various fringe groups within, the Republicans are the only *mainstream* party that represents libertarian values. I am a happy, straight, libertarian, atheist and registered Republican.

Don't forget Gary Bauer, Donald Wildmon, Jerry Fallwell, Pat Robertson - you know they spend all their time worrying about civil liberties.

Feel free to share your feelings about Republicans will win because Americans are backward. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
