Queer Baptist Schism

Archive: Homophobia

If you didn't grow up amongst the hard line Baptists as I did you don't know that the American Baptist Churches USA are but a 10th the size of the Southern Baptist convention. Really more along the size of the American Episcopal Church. (Though the church that I attended as a lad thought the SBC hell-bound liberals.)

ABC US are usually categorized as 'mainline' meaning they've mostly been harmless, decent protestants.

A split among them is not a major shift in American homophobic theology.

Divisions over homosexuality that have embroiled several mainline Protestant denominations in the United States are now threatening to tear apart the American Baptist Churches USA, with leaders of hundreds of local churches announcing plans to secede from their national organization.

Baptists may split over gay issues

Comments:

Feel free to share your feelings about Queer Baptist Schism. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted.

This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.

My thanks,
Richard
