Republicans ten times as likely to believe in Satan

Archive: Christian Fundamentalism

Barna Research has a new poll. His latest survey says that fewer than 10% of Americans who consider themselves born again have what Barna defines as a biblical worldview:

Around 80 times more likely to say exposure to pornography is morally acceptable (39 percent vs. less than one-half of 1 percent).

31 times more likely to believe living together before marriage is morally acceptable (62 percent vs. 2 percent).

15 times more likely to believe homosexual sex is acceptable (31 percent vs. 2 percent versus).

18 times more likely to endorse drunkenness (36 percent vs. 2 percent).

“Friends and neighbors, I come before you to endorse my good friend drunkenness”?

Barna's biblical worldview means the usual: Satan is real, biblical inerrancy. Republicans are ten times as likely as Democrats to meet Barna's criteria.

Hi - My name is Raina Vissman and I live in Lawrence, KS (where you can find the only speck of tolerance in all of KS). I accessed your site by accident - I was trying to save a document under the title “Biblical Marriage (for Republicans)”. It is actually a hilarious email from my mother regarding other marriage “rules” according to the bible - the original email was written by David Grinnell and includes such winners as “marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines in addition to his wife or wives” (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; Chron 11:21). There is also a funny one about women who are unable to find a husband (they may get their father drunk and “have sons with him). I am sorry I cannot forward the whole bit; however, I still am only able to print the first page only and cannot copy the attachment.
I am a heterosexual; however, I cannot begin to tell you how appalled I am with the recent “gay marriage ban” amendments being introduced into the legislature in a variety of states (amazingly it was rejected in KS!!). I have written both my state reps and our jerk US Senators regarding this issue - Sen Brownback (R-KS) has to be the most backward man in the US (behind the cabinet and whitehouse).
I just wanted to send an email, since it is unusual for me to find a site that is both amusing, and mocks the things I most dislike.
Thank you for cracking me up.

The Old Testament is filled with nutty things. The born again are practiced at wriggling out of them.

Making people laugh at such follies is what I enjoy most. Thanks for the comment.

That could be because they have sold their souls to him.

Dear Ones,
Hope we can all agree that the idea of “evil” and of “Satan” is simply, pure ignorance. (seemingly, an oxymoron) If 40% of the voters for Bush were “Evangelical”,… maybe not quite yet. Hummmmm?
Peace, Tone

Comments:

Feel free to share your feelings about Republicans ten times as likely to believe in Satan. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted.

This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.

My thanks,
Richard
