Lee Simpson's cross walk
• Wishful Thinking
LEE SIMPSON carries his cross along Route 291 in front of Priscilla's, a store that sells sex-related media. Man carrying cross crisscrosses America
When God started talking Lee Simpson started walking, Simpson says while dragging a cross made of 4 by 4s through Liberty on Friday. ...
"I started this full time on April 1st of last year," he says while putting down the lumber along the side of Highway 291.
Simpson's shoulder is wedged firmly under the "T," and the foot of the cross is planted in a metal basket loaded with supplies - gallon milk bottles full of water and backpacked essentials. The basket has wheels and keeps the foot of the cross from bouncing along a dirt path that would be a sidewalk in many suburban cities. ...
Why go to Florida? Why so far?
"This is the route God told me to take," he says.
Simpson says he does not know God's ultimate reason for wanting him to make the trip, but there have been some indications along the way. He says he has talked to people who gave their lives to Jesus, including someone who contemplated suicide and a couple who told him they worshipped Satan.
"They told me they were (Satanists), but they accepted Jesus as their savior and you could tell by the way they acted that it was real," he says.
