Atlantis

Wishful Thinking

The features were originally spotted by Werner Wickboldt, a lecturer and Atlantis enthusiast who studied photographs from across the Mediterranean for signs of the city described by Plato. ...

Mr Wickboldt added that the Greeks might have confused an Egyptian word referring to a coastline with one meaning "island" during transmission of the Atlantis story.

Commenting on the satellite image showing the two "temples", Tony Wilkinson, an expert in the use of remote sensing in archaeology at the University of Edinburgh, UK, told BBC News Online: "A lot of the problems come with interpretations. I can see something there and I could imagine that one could interpret it in various ways. But you've got several leaps of faith here.

Well, it's more credible than the whole "advanced civilization sinking to the bottom of the sea" thing. At least this guy doesn't seem to think we're going to find Atlanteans living in the deeps.
There's a good a reason to believe in Atlantis as there is that Moses parted the Red Sea: none.
"There’s a good a reason to believe in Atlantis as there is that Moses parted the Red Sea: none." I'm not even going to bother arguing since that would be off-topic... Atlantis, believe it or not, was the topic of many government investigations during the 50's and early 60's. Leaders were just as interested as they were in the UFO chains that they ddi everything short of starting a Project Blue Book for the city as well. The historical possibility of Atlantis? Highly possible, even practical. The Phoenicians, for instance, are recorded as having many outposts for resupply all over their trading routes. However, there is one therory that makes quite a bit of sence... Atleast if you believe that the Bible is accurate. The legend of Atlantis states that Atlantis was an ancient city founded some few thousnad years before Athens. It was just beyond the pilars of hercules (better known as the straights of Gilbraltar), and was atleast larger then north Africa and Asia minor combined in size. However, the origanal legend states only that it was a great city, and mentions nothing of it being a port or even on the coast. The therory: (S1)Atlantis was a city on the modern continent of North America, when the great flood occured, Atlantis was swallowed by the waves, as were all other existing citys. Following the great flood, and the continents seperating because of the event, it would appear as if the "island" had been swallowed up. So, as the world repopulated, and the story of the once great city was passed down, it was slowly twisted into an island port or great "technology" and "advancment". Wether this be the actual truth or not is up for speculation. It seems possible, atleast in my eyes, however, I do believe it could also jsut be a fairy tale. -Anomynous
Oh, I nearly forgot. There is another therory. I forgot why i mentioned the Phoenicians for a moment. Another therory is that Atlantis was a Phoenician city that was actualy an island in the Caribean Sea near the gulf of Mexico. And a last note, form an article... "In 1968 divers found in the waters off Bimini what appeared to be a long roadway paved with rectangular blocks of stone..." Just some small additions...

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Atlantis. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
