Crazy Street Preachers

What can you say?

You've seen those demented street evangelists who shout at every passerby about Jesus and damnation. What if it were you and I standing there promoting some non-Christian message? Would our gibbering be tolerated?

I could not help but wonder each time I saw him whether this was actually acceptable on school premises. Surely, someone would say that the First Amendment, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and all protects his behavior, and that's all well and good. However, it makes one wonder if that infringes on the rights of others not to have their beliefs questioned in a place that is supposed to uphold the views of all, not just the majority or the few.

Comments

Apart from college campuses, I believe that schools should not permit bantering from either side to occur on campus. I know that, if I had kids, I'd rather talk to them about religion than have them hear about it from some school-ground evangalist. If nothing else changes, I hope that someone representing a more sceptical viewpoint will also set up camp on the same campus.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Crazy Street Preachers. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
