King James Bible Textbook Initiative

American Atheists announced today its opposition to the proposed California initiative that would amend the state constitution to mandate using the King James version of the Bible as a textbook in public primary and secondary schools. (SA03RF0054, Amdt. #1-NS)

“This is nothing but an attempt to bring the Protestant Christian religion into the public schools” declared Dave Kong, California director for American Atheists. “The initiative’s proponents talk of ‘broadening the education of the mind,’ but the first statement on their website clearly reveals their intention: ‘This initiative will make the State of California provide the students in the public schools with Bibles.’ “

You know- this morning especially, but to a lesser degree every morning -I'm terrified of and for America. I lived in New Brunswick in the '60s and no, I would never go back. Telion, first and formost, what does this have to do...with God. I have nothing against God, I worsahip God, I worship many Gods, becuase they are all one God(Yay for druidism!). The subject goes back to not God, but his followers...this country was founded on freedo...and freedom of religion is one I hold very dear. You are going to actually agree with the forcing of your religion upon young minds...if so I spit on your ways of thinking. If there is one thing that actually angers me, it is the fact that a percentage(meaning not all) Christians try to convert and force their beliefs upon others.In my personal opinion, the commandment to worship no other butGod himself, can be interpretted in many ways...whether it means worship onof his many forms(notice the fact that there a many religions to match different forms) or to worship him as your neighbor would worship their own beliefs. Again, I mean no harm, but I must say that the views of "worship my God or burn in the Abyss" is very unmatching to the love your God holds, and the fact he loves his children for who they are. (That last statement also works for gays and such other lifestyles that Christianity in modern times have decided to scorn.) Love the neighbor, my friend...and love them well...

I don't know what you call "God" but that not Him! You made a God in your mind to suit yourself...a god that has no sense of justice a corrupt god. A god that says rapist...and muderers...and theives...and liars will go unpunished. The God of the bible has a sense of justice...but in his love he paid the penalty for the crimes that have been commited. He showed his love while upholding justice. Since when did sharing info was forcing veiws....schools do it all the time if that's the case...they teach evolution(many of the atheist's religion[or set of beliefs]) when it is not proven...only theory. "Why do they force there beliefs on us"...give me a break! If I thought you were headed in front of a bus and didn't say anything how would you feel...this is what an atheist wrote: "You are really convinced that you've got all the answers. You've really got yourself tricked into believing that you're 100% right. Well, let me tell you just one thing. Do you consider yourself to be compassionate of other humans? If you're right, as you say you are, and you believe that, then how can you sleep at night? When you speak with me, you are speaking with someone who you believe is walking directly into eternal damnation, into an endless onslaught of horrendous pain which your 'loving' god created, yet you stand by and do nothing. If you believed one bit that thousands every day were falling into an eternal and unchangeable fate, you should be running the streets mad with rage at their blindness. That's equivalent to standing on a street corner and watching every person that passes you walk blindly directly into the path of a bus and die, yet you stand idly by and do nothing. You're just twiddling your thumbs, happy in the knowledge that one day that 'walk' signal will shine your way across the road. Think about it. Imagine the horrors Hell must have in store if the Bible is true. You're just going to allow that to happen and not care about saving anyone but yourself? If you're right then you're an uncaring, unemotional and purely selfish (expletive) that has no right to talk about subjects such as love and caring." The thing is, both views should be taught...people should have the power of choice. If they don't want to study it they shouldn't have to....if someone don't believe in evolution or other scientific THEORIES....they also shouldn't have to. Pic and choose.

One comment before I just end this bickering outright...God is nuetral. No matter what you say, you can't determe on this view. All Gods are one...Satan is God in an evil aspect....and the Almighty God is the good...along with all his other representations. God is a nuetral being...he made ALL...his darker aspects made rapists, murders, the corrupt...his lighter halves made faith, hope, love...and generous hearted people...and as for all your damnation if the Bible is true...I hold my beliefs, i die with my beliefs, and I trust and have faith that what I believed in my life, while effect my own afterlife. There is no set courses in my mind...think What Dreams May Come...great movie, deep meaning...and a perfect example of my beliefs. And end case! *slams gavel*

Hello. Some very interesting views, I must say. First of all, this thing of "God" coming here to die for my and others sins is just a lot of stupid ideaology. If anyone were to die for my sins he is a fool! Having oneself killed to save the world is just another form of suicide! It solves nothing and only has created an internaional "pity party" for the fool who "died" for our sins. SACRIFICE is not going to save anyone. Just think if the great JC lived until he was 70 or so. How much more could he have done to help the people of this screwed up planet. Predicting to have one self killed just does not hold up to the most fundamental logic there is. You don't kill the people you love and that includes your self!!!!! There is much more to the story of JC than the majority of Christiandom would allow us to believe. Here is a poem for all of you. "I have suffered through many "insanities" and many "anities" AND "Christianity" in one of them!" Even the "great"Ghandi, GOT A PITY PARTY going when he was starving himself. His success was very limited and he was eventually killed anyway. How wrong can a person be?? DEAD!, that's how wrong! Peace!

Greetings from the House of the Lord, I am a branch pastor of Christ for all Nation Churches here in nigeria and will like to purchase 100 pieces of bible which are to be given to prisoners here who have just given their life to christ through me and the church of God, i pray that God Alimighty will continue to do his God thing in our life Amen. Feel free to share your feelings about King James Bible Textbook Initiative. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
