The YMCA runs an after-school program in Moultrie, and Bethany Christian Services recruits and trains prospective adoptive parents across Georgia.
A change in the Georgia Constitution sought by Gov. Sonny Perdue could eventually mean that faith-based groups could require clients to offer a confession of faith before getting a cot. Perdue wants to append 12 words to the part of the constitution that states, "No money shall ever be taken from the public treasury, directly or indirectly, in aid of any church, sect, cult or religious denomination or any sectarian institution." The governor wants to add, "except as permitted or required by the United States Constitution, as amended."
