Did Bush just put one over on the fundagelicals?

Wearisome Bedfellows

Oh my, did George Bush just exploit all those born-again folks for their votes? Wouldn't that be so sad?

Asked about Christian voters in the election, Bush promised to be president for all Americans, pointedly including those who "choose not to worship."

"I will be your president regardless of your faith," he said. "No president should ever try to impose religion on our society."

Bush's ecumenical caution didn't sit well with some evangelicals. "The president could have paused to thank all those good people who poured in and gave him power again," James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, told U.S. News & World Report. "The GOP has been given four years to deliver on marriage and life and family, and if they fumble it ... (we'll) stay home next time."

Dear James Dobson, Way to be a sore winner. Next time please do stay home. Your 'Gott όber alles' mentality frightens rational people. There is no reason that a President should try to push a national religion. Pop quiz: If fundies keep saying that Pilgrims left England because the Britons didn't let them practise religion, then why is there a Church of England? I'll tell you why: because they were of the WRONG religion at the time in England. That's exactly like what those of your persuasion think of everyone but your brand of fundamentalism. Do you see the point now? I'm afraid that we will become like unto the England of the 1600s. All of the principles -- written by Deists, mind -- upon which this country were founded respect this freedom. Why don't you? Why do you hate America?

How do you feel?
