Did they 'claim' that or is that sensationalist reporting?
Scientists from SETI, the worldwide project for Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence claim to have detected what they believe to be the first radio signal from an alien civilisation.
You know, long, long ago before Sagan had to start talking about "billions and billions" on TV (back then he was known only as the translator of a Russian science book) I wondered if I might
be interested in xenobiology. Only briefly, back then my heart belongs to particle physics. Well, that was me at 15 anyway.SHGb02+141 is coming from a part of space where there is no obvious star or planetary system. Its frequency is 1,420 megahertz, one of the main frequencies of hydrogen when it absorbs and emits energy. Some space scientists have argued that an alien civilization trying to broadcast its presence would transmit at this frequency. "It just boggles my mind," said University of California Berkeley's Eric Korpela.
Hope springs eternal and an advanced education in science doesn't stop that anymore than it prevents some from becoming creation 'scientists.'
