Russian UFO hoax

» UFOs & Bogus Science

A flurry of reports from Russia about the discovery of fragments of an alien spaceship at the site of the 1908 Tunguska explosion may be nothing more than wish fulfillment by devotees of a half-century-old Russian space myth, or they may actually have been based on genuine spacecraft fragments — but of Russian origin.

Tale of 1908 Tunguska explosion gets even more tangled

"I'm afraid this is a rather stupid hoax," said Benny Peiser, a researcher at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. "The Russian team stupidly stated long before they went to Siberia that the main intention of their expedition was to find the remnants of an 'alien spaceship!' And bingo! A week later, that's what they claim to have found."

Russian Alien Spaceship Claims Raise Eyebrows, Skepticism

Comments

I find the initial news release fantastical, not to mention a little presumptuous after adamantly claiming they had found an ET device then (added the comment) that a piece from it had been sent off to be tested. What I am wanting experts to consider (esp. since I am no expert in these matters) is that given a search of the area based on a different direction as these guys did ... could they have in fact discovered debris from a meteorite, asteroid or other natural space object that could fit in with a scientifically acceptable explanation ????
The 1908 Tunguska event was interesting because it was one of the first clues that very large meteorites can exlode. The idea was novel in the 1950s. But what is rather sad is the fact that not much was learned in the Halls of Crankery. The tektites and fusion glasses of the Indochina strewnfield are still blamed on aliens! Even thought most strewnfields have obvious craters associated with them. Ah but that one does not!" Pseudo-scientists make the same blunders again and again. "No that was a meteor impact. - But this is is evidence of aliens with nukes flying in vimanas a la Mahabharata, ancient astronauts et cetera, "
