UFOs & Bogus Science

How old is the Grand Canyon? Most scientists agree with the version that rangers at Grand Canyon National Park tell visitors — that the 10-mile wide chasm in northern Arizona was carved by the Colorado River 5 million to 6 million years ago.

Now, however, a book in the park's bookstores tells another story. On sale since last summer, "Grand Canyon: A Different View," by veteran Colorado River guide Tom Vail, asserts that the Grand Canyon was formed by the Old Testament flood, the one Noah's Ark survived, and can be no older than a few thousand years.

It's amazing, you won't find a respectable biblical scholar ANYWHERE who would tell you that the events of Genisis are actually historical (even though some of the stories MAY have their roots in historical events...) but it's so damn easy to find some Bubba or Jim-Bob who's willing to fight about it. Atheist or believer, the whole POINT of Judeo-christianity is about loving and respecting one another, and not if god created the world in one seven-day *poof* or with an evolutionary process that lasted millions of years - I wonder sometimes if these hard-core christians need to bitch about the little unimportant details just so they can continue looking down on everyone who's not just like them....
To refute what "spyke" said; you are wrong in thinking that no biblical scholar anywhere will stand for a seven day creation. Quite the contrary actually; there are whole institues (i.e. AIG, ICR, etc.) with thousands and thousands of members devoted to developing and researching "Christian geology". Just because you've been inundated with theories as facts all through your education doesn't mean you've been told the truth. To think that God had nothing to do with the creation of Earth is quite ignorant and rather pompous of us (man) to assume that it was some sort of accident. You can search for some very scientific answers on creation and find stuff that might be a little too scientific, but maybe you'll understand it with your apparent vast knowledge of theology and geology. Like Richard said, please don't post ignorant hate mail on this board
Wow, neither one of you sound too happy. I'd like to say, as a student of a christian university, that most biblical scholars do believe that the genesis accounts are accurate. I've written a lot of papers over books written by some of the biggest names in christianity, and taken class after class over the bible and various theological topics, and for the most part, christians believe in Genesis (especially us "fundies"). It is impossible to be a christian and not have a literal faith in creation and Adam and Eve. Without Genesis, there is no backbone for the rest of the bible. And the whole POINT of Judeo-christianity is not about loving and respecting one another, but loving and respecting God enough to trust in His word and be filled with His love so much, then let it pour out on the world.
one word and one word only FOSSILS i mean i have seen them i know they exist. i have seen fossils set up showing an eveloutionary track that spans millions of years. for christ's sake read a book

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Christian geology. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
