Voodoo in New Orleans
• Superstitious Folly
Wells Tower (Washington Post) on a voodoo tour of New Orleans:
Most French Quarter voodoo shops are dusty, dimly lit, and showcase a macabre, bone-and-root-strewn untidiness that impresses out-of-towners. Voodoo Authentica sells the same things these other shops sell -- religious candles with names like Alleged Double Action Reversible, John the Conqueror and Alleged Jinx Removing; aerosol cans of "money spray"; incense; statues of Catholic saints; herbs; powders; voodoo dolls; and "juju guardians," which have blank rubber features and look like Mr. Bill -- but this shop is oddly orderly and tricked out with neon signage that conveys a smart, contemporary feel.Magic Kingdom
