Russian Satanism

Always best to add a heaping of salt to stories about Satanism. Can't see why it wouldn't be as appealing as other species of nonsense though.

Moscow alone has about 15 Satanist groups , including the Black Angel, the Left Path, the Church of the 13th Apostle and the Order of the Silver Star.

Such groups are feared to have committed rapes, killings, dismemberments, orgies and church and grave desecrations.

Their worship is thought to revolve around black magic and reverence for numbers and symbols such as "666", "A", an upturned five-pointed star within a circle, a skull split in half, crosses turned upside down and swastikas.

What does swastikas have to do with satanism? Satanism values individualism as one of the most important things, while swastikas were used by nazis, and we all know that nazism/socialism discourages individualism in any form. KKK (most famous nazi group around) preaches Christianism, go to their Website and read yourself. And "666" is a Bible concept and has nothing to do with Satanism. We (satanists) see Satan as something metaphorical, we carry him inside of us, we don't bow to him, don't pray and don't make sacrifices. On other hand, Holy Bible is full of stories about sacrifices of animals and humans (even children). If you gonna talk about sacrifices, then attribute this insanity to the Christianism. These people kill, rape, etc because they want to, or were fooled into doing this. They aren't Satanists, and they probably have no idea what Satanism is. Fight them all you want, just don't blame it on Satanism... P.S.: Read "Satanic Bible" by A. LaVey or Nietzsche's works if you want to know what Satanism is.

Satanism is one of those generic terms that it doesn't have real meaning without a context. Just as Christianity ranges from liberal Anglicans to the theonomists. The Satanic Bible it didn't occur to me that anybody was naive enough to take that seriously anymore. I've read Nietzsche, only a wilfull misreading of Ecce Homo or the AntiChrist could find Satanism there.

I would like the address the very basic misconceptions and blatant misinformation on Satanism. No one is really presenting Satanism as espoused by actual Satanists and not Christian-hype inspired lunatics. This statement by an earlier poster is quite off the mark. Satanism is not a religion like Christianity, it does not have denominations. It is not a generic term that can be applied to just anything. The first usage of the word Satanism was used in the 1500's in plural form as "Satanisms" and was used to describe "acts of wickedness." It was not used as a term to describe a person unti later on. And later it was used to describe groups of people that DIDN'T exist, groups that the Catholics needed to create in order to scare people into submission. The first group of people to apply the term Satanist to themselves and Satanism to their beliefs were those who got together in the 1960's and were headed by Anton Szandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan and the religion of Satanism. The term Satanism used to describe a group of people that actually exist and a religion that actually exists is historically owned by people like me. You can go about calling these random nut jobs who believe otherwise Satanists, but you'd be incorrect in your usage of the term. These people who commit these atrocious acts may very well call themselves Satanists, but they have zero to do with the actual religion of Satanism. They are just random nuts. They have nothing to do with the real deal, at most they are Diabolists. Satanism (as a religion and a destinct kind of person)has already been defined and established as what the Church of Satan espouses. Accept it or not, thats the way it is. You can disagree with our reasons for calling it Satanism and with our ideas but accept the fact that the label is our's and defined by us. Not inverted Christian lunatics. I have yet to figure out why Satanists just don't call themselves Atheists. I guess they just want to join a group or feel extra special. They are merely Humanists. This would the Church of Satan variety, but like you said before the term is generic and can be used by anyone.

Satanism in an American and European context mostly means a couple of things: Some of the people who use the word pagan to identify their faith in the supernatural. Mostly they use the term wicca now. They are heavily influenced by some bad early 20th century anthropology that that treated those persecuted as witches as member of a minority religion (can’t find the book to note which anthropologist). The kids who employ it mostly for shock value. When I was too young to know about or really understand the Jewish Holocaust I went around saying “Sieg Heil” The aberrant people who think the Devil is talking them aren’t worth discussing. Can’t see any reason for people who invoke the supernatural to describe themselves with a word used to describe anti-supernaturalists.

Satanists from the church of satan are not true satanists. they just took the name. true satan worshipers do not call themselves satanists as they do evil things like sacrifices to satan, black mass and such. if someone says hes a satanist then he is reffering to satanism not devil worshiping. Devil worshipers usually go by clans. like the brotherhood or the blackwater clan. and so on. they have to keep themselves secret as they do evil deeds that are unacceptable to the public.
