Nigeria: world's most religious nation

Superstitious Folly

91% of the people of Nigeria go to religious services; 95% pray. It wasn't revealed how many prayed for success of their Nigerian spam and 419 scams.

Nigeria is the most religious country in the world with 90 per cent of the population believing in God, praying regularly and affirming their readiness to die on behalf of their belief. ...

Nigeria, Most Religious Country

Comments

I personally know someone who was burned badly by a 419 scandal. I've heard Nigeria described as a nation of "very talented people with nothing to do." I didn't know they were religious too! God help us.
Interesting-Nigeria is also home to the most immoral population in Africa, if we care to categorise such things. Nigerians living in South Africa are routinely seen as drug-pushers,pimps, con men, fraudsters and forgers. Why? Partly because we SAfricans are so damned xenophobic, which should be funny, considering our history, but also because the only Nigerians any one of us usually has aquaintance with are memebers of the underworld. Supports my contention that religion is, at base, a con and dishonesty exemplified.
Up Naija!
What is the relationship of religion to Nigeria's violence, corruption, and low standard of living. Very simple. It has been shown in numerous studies that the uneducated are usually more religious. Look at Appalachia and the deep south in America. The absurdity of a godman and all the superstitious trappings that go with it cannot be taken seriously by any educated person.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Nigeria: world's most religious nation. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
