Mayan apocalypse myth

Superstitious Folly

Jason Laughlin in the Courier-Post writes of mass murderer manquι Matthew Lovett.

Lovett wrote of a battle with demons beginning in 2012. Lovett and Jackson would ascend to power as world leaders because of their abilities to fight demons that he expected would overrun the world, he wrote.

"There's a war that will happen in 2012, the great holy war," Lovett wrote in a letter to his younger brother. "The chosen warriors (the Mystics) will fight in it to protect the planet."

The theory of a 2012 apocalypse was apparently central to Lovett's belief system. The theory is based on interpretations of the 2,300-year-old Mayan calendar, which supposedly placed the end of the world shortly before Christmas 2012. It's an idea that has carved out a small presence in pop culture. The last episode of the Fox sci-fi series The X-Files centered on a predicted alien invasion in 2012.

Comments

It turns out a group of my friends used to regularly hold end of the world parties. I checked with a scholarly webpage as to when the Mayan apocalypse is, and if possible, we will hold a party then. Besides, it'll be fun to say "Can't do Saturday, the world is ending. How about Thursday?"

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Mayan apocalypse myth. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
