Wake Forest stops praying

Here in North Carolina Wake Forest University faculty have voted (81 to 24 with six abstentions) to end their tradition of opening meetings with prayer.
Alex Reyes, Old Gold & Black: Faculty say no more prayersThe prayer would usually be led by former Chaplain Ed Christman, and while we would all stand and bow our heads, he would invoke the name of Jesus Christ, Weinstein said.
Weinstein said he and some faculty members would purposely show up late to avoid the ritual. It was never a pressing issue, he said, but one that he hoped would eventually just go away.
Hugo Lane, a professor of biology, said it is a pity to see the abandonment of a university tradition. He said it may affect the amount of money that very religious donors give to the university.
