If you don't believe in God you're evil

Skeptics & Atheists

At age 14 he set out to read the Bible from cover to cover.

But something happened when he began reading it.

"There was so much that was in direct conflict with science that it put the seeds of doubts in my mind," he says.

He didn't immediately become an atheist. That happened gradually, over time, he says.

Hance says people have generally accepted his atheism. But he's heard some criticism about atheists. The worst of it?

"If you don't believe in God you're not a patriot, or if you don't believe in God you're evil and you're going to hell," he says.

On the topic of evil, all people are inherintly evil. Even Christians were evil, and still fall short of God's expectations time after time. It is only Jesus that makes them white as snow before God's eyes. Are atheists evil? Yes. Are Buddhists evil? Yes. Are Christians evil? Yes. Evil is a product of our own sinful natures; by being born of the union of a man and woman, we are sinful. We were born sinners.
Evil is intentional harm towards another, either for personal gain, pleasure or (other) reasons. Religion thrives on setting up targets for evil, which if hit, are intent on harming "god" (or his well-paid mouthpieces). I'm not gay. However, I was sexually abused as a child by a person in charge (a gym/sex-ed) teacher back in the early 60's. What he did to me was evil - I've never been able to trust another person in a sexual way. I don't believe this man was Gay. He was a pedophile. And that means "he loves children", which in itself is no crime. But to act out by seducing a child into sexual gratification, is both Evil and a Crime. My parents were well-educated, very religious and thus believed that the only perverts were dirty-old-men hiding in the brush. I was always looking for dirty-old-men in the brush, not my PE/SE teacher who abused me many times in many ways while my parents ignored my pain. Evil is usually motive/need-based, and usually very selfish. It has nothing to do with "God or Religion". It is, in most cases, easily broken down to SELFISH GREED. Lontano
I have long been a non-believer for simple reasons of psychology. We, the human race, need a higher power to believe in and in the same breathe, to blame for all wrong doings in our lives. We also need a higher power to have faith in to further make sense of our lives, and trick ourselves into believing that faith caused all of our problems to disappear, and faith caused a miracle of some health sort. I have faith; faith in myself and that I only need to believe in me. That will get me through life just fine. I don't down those who believe; I actually am very envious and wish I too could wear a cross and put all my beliefs in it and a book written a very long time ago. I just can't do it. I'm not a bad person for feeling this way. I am just me.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about If you don't believe in God you're evil. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
