An atheist homelamd

I would like to live in a country where the response to a major terrorist act is not to go around mindlessly repeating “God Bless America” and pasting American flags on our SUVs but one in which a serious dialogue concerning foreign policy issues and a perennial addiction to fossil fuels could take place.

I would like to live in a country where religious leaders do not blame these same acts of terrorism on homosexuality and abortion (as Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell did shortly after 9/11) but rather where secular leaders would assign blame to the true source of much of the terrorism in the world today: religion itself.

I am an atheist, too, but still, I'd feel more comfortable if you's said "the interpretation of religion" rather than just "religion itself."

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about An atheist homelamd. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
