Americans hate atheists

Richard Evans Lee

I'll never be president, or dog catcher. I'm a queer atheist.

"There's only one group someone wouldn't vote for," Bowman revealed. "Those are atheists. In this country there's more acceptance for homosexuals than atheists."

I'd vote for you!
I am not homosexual, however I myself am an agnostic. I know what kind of prejudice and stereotypes us atheists/agnostics go through. I only wish people would stop trying to preach to us and rather accept us for who we are and what we believe in.
if we are to truly explore the depths of our materialistic nature we cannot deny anything, even our hate and prejudices. The root and nature of hate cannot possibly be examined through censorship of any sort. I can scarcely imagine a situation in which i endorse hate, but the free-thinking individual i am, i could never "divine" its extinction either. all americans do not hate athiests, just the tyrannical majority.
I am indeed an atheist, and it is hard. I live in the bible belt of america, making it that much harder. I was dating a girl here, and then she sparked up a conversation about religion. Usually, in these parts, I am reluctant in telling anyone of my beliefs, or lack thereof, but i figured that since i am with this person, i should at least inform her of my "religious convictions". Well, turns out she didn't like that to much, we got in an argument, and ended the argument by ending the relationship. My own family doesn't even know i'm atheist. That's hard too. Especially this past thanksgiving, when i have to hold hands and pray with the family, and then continue on to thank god for all i have. I'm not sure why i write all this, but i figure if i post it now, check back later, and maybe someone goes through somewhat of the same thing, then maybe i won't feel so secluded, and "In the Closet". Anyways, Bye.
i liv ein the UK, being an atheist is so much more acceptable than in america, form my viewpoint, america is far to religous and uses it to base far too many decisons on it. religous is becoming obselete. in time there i will be no religous people.
I will start by saying I am an American, Christian, and straight married female. I don't hate atheists, gays or foreigners. I can't understand or appreciate your beliefs or lack thereof since mine are obviously quite different. I don't agree with them and probably feel just as strongly in my beliefs as it would seem you do in yours. I am sorry you feel so hated and secluded. I can tell you that we all feel seclusion on some level no matter what your religious beliefs or sexual preference. We all have emptiness and lonliness no matter how happy or accepted we are. I guess a belief in God, for me helps with that lonliness and seclusion. A true Christian doesn't hate you Atheist, we love you but hate your choice. Bottom line though....its your choice and we all have one for which we pay a price or reap the rewards. Good luck.
How could atheists not believe in anything? I am dying to know this: Where do atheist believe they will go when they die? If in the ground, that just plain sucks. You know what, fine. Believe like that. When you die, you will end up in the ground. There will be no Heaven or Hell for you. That sucks for you. Life will be much easier if you believed in God. If you do not know what religion is right, they all are! If you are discouraged, believe in God. You are discouraged because you do not believe in God, not because God does not believe in you. God might not answer your prayers because you do not believe in Him. Remember, God knows all. Even your thoughts and feelings. He knows if you really believe He will answer your prayers. God loves you even if you are an atheist. But, He will punish you. And it will not be fun. Trust me. I am very wise. I am an excellent philosopher. And my philosophies are these: "You say, What is the point. God does not even exist. What this man is saying will not matter a bit. The truth is, it will matter if you just give it a chance to. You may think you are happy. But there is always something that makes you feel unhappy. And that can just all end if you listen to my philosophies. And listen good and intently." "Why would mostly all of the World's population believe in something that is untrue? Remember the old phrase, Majorite Rules?" "You are discouraged because you do not believe in God, not becouse God does not believe in you." "Never question about what religion is correct. Any belief or religion that has a God has a hope." "God is just a variable. God could refer to Jesus, Allah, Buddha, or Shiva." "Happiness comes from the human mind. If you do not have a reason to be happy, or to love God as He has loved you, you will never find true happiness." "You think God has abandoned you because He has ignored you your whole life. The real truth is you have abandoned God because you have ignored Him your whole life." "Look at things from God's point of view. IF I DO TOO MUCH, THE WORLD WILL BECOME TOO OVERDEPENDENT ON ME. IF I DO TOO LITTLE, THE WORLD WILL STOP BELIEVING IN ME." "Never think that God hates you. Think this: Why would God create something that He hates? and Why would God want to help somebody who hates Him?" "Church is a place to worship. It is God's temple. God is everywhere. God will understand if you prefer to worship alone though. He understands all." "Human illness is a test. God wants to see how you will react if you get ill so many times. He is testing you so that you will never give up on God." "God never gives up on atheists. Atheist are the ones who give up on God." "Imagine someone who has loved you so much that he would die a horrible death for you. He would even love you if you did not love him. And then you turn around after all the love he has given you and say, Screw it. All that you do does not matter to me, I hate you. Imagine how much you have hurt that person." "You will find true peace and happiness if you have a religion, if you believe in God. All you have to do is sort your feelings and listen to my wise philosophies. See how they are related. Then, I promise you, if you have tried to your full extent, you Will believe in God and be at peace and be happy. But, you will be at peace and be happy because you believe in God."
"If you cannot explain Why, do not state What." "God says that atheism is the worst crime anybody can commit, and therefore no punishment will be too great to give to an atheist. If you believe that treason to your country is the worst crime, then you must believe that atheism is the worst crime. When you deny God's existance, you are betraying Him. You are commiting an act of treason towards someone who has loved you no matter what happens. And that, is what the real atrocity is." Rob, do you want to be happy? Do you want to believe in God? Do you want all of your despair to end? State your problems. Read my philosophies. I promise, if you cooperate, you WILL believe in God and be happy. Just have patience and wisdom. And use your mind to its full possible extent. I am from America. I have no religious jobs at all. I am 84 years old. And I have retired from my daily ways of working. I used to get so violent when someone said that there was no God. I used to want to kill them right on the spot. But, later I realized that I was wrong. The only way to convert an atheist is by philosophically understanding their problems and having them understand theirs. And afterwards, having them try to relate their problems with my philosophies with their mind's full extent. I have not converted any atheists yet, because of my formerly violent temper towards them. I sure hope to have that accomplished soon. "It is okay to hate someone. But use your hatred to try to help them and not hurt them." I still dislike atheists, but because of that, I want to help them become happy and believe in God. And THAT, is what matters.
You know what kind of cracks me up as an atheist? It's the rampant use of the word "hate" that we engender. An atheist doesn't normally spout anything to anyone, we don't feel any need to make anyone see thar our wayis better, we aren't anticipating a better seat at some table at some "End Of The World Party" based on how many people we convert. An atheist doesn't hate any religion (because we aren't backing a team), and speaking for myself, I don't hate any people either (the only ideas I hate...are hateful ones!). Know why? Cause for me, this is all I've got. Know what that means in the long run? Every experience I have, every person I meet, every day I have is so much more precious for this life being the only trip I'll have. There'll be no catching up in Heaven, no second chance in my next life. I can see the beauty in any religion, even the ones that are killing/have killed each other over whose God is better. When I read the original article stating that Americans hate atheists more than terrorism, I just felt really sad inside. And sort of insulted, 'cause I really can't believe that anyone would want to see me down in the pits of some hell with Osama, Hitler, George W. Bush, Dahmer, drug kingpins, child molesters, and the like, especially when I teach children, love nature, give to the poor, treat animals and the elderly well. I make teddy bears in my spare time for Pete's sake! I'm a good person. Any atheist who's survived to their late 20's knows to just keep their mouth shut and nod with a vacant look in their eye, so I can't really see how we rank with baby killing, family rending terrorism. It's exactly the sort of thing that someone would say when they thought they could be absolved for saying hateful things at the very last minute of their life. Try not to start any more Crusades, Inquisitions, genocides, and or Jihad's in your God's name, and I'll do the same...OK? Peace Out.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Americans hate atheists. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
