Hoasca tea ban

Religious Intolerance

Religious freedom in the land of liberty, at least the era of George Bush:

An appeals court ruled the sacramental use of the tea cannot be banned because of a 1993 religious freedom law.

The hoasca tea which comes from the Amazon contains an illegal substance that can pose health hazards.

But adherents of the O Centro Espirita Beneficiente Uniao do Vegetal religion say the tea connects them to God.

But not George Bush's God.

US church's illegal tea faces ban

The Bush administration argues that importing hoasca would defeat the purpose of drug-control laws and violate the 1971 U.N. Convention on Psychotropic Substances, which binds the United States to battle international trafficking in hallucinogens.

Supreme Court to Decide Whether Church Can Import Drug

Comments

So say the tea ban is defeated, an the supreme court rules that religious drug use is ok. What is to stop 12 herion addicts from "forming a religion" and using this case as protection from persecution? Just a thought...
Not a very deep thought. Native Americans are already allowed the use of peyote for religious purposes. The issue over the tea is that it has to be imported.
Well whoopdy-fuckin do! Im not talking about native americans, or scalp-eaters as you call them.
How about the fact that hoasca has been used since before anybody from europe came to the america's, and is far less dangerous than any opiate derivative including heroion and morphine.
Then the plant can be grown here like peyote?

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Hoasca tea ban. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
