Sukyo Mahikari

Miracle Cures, Health Quackery

The nutty mystical healing of the Sukyo Mahikari faith are being used in the Cancer Hospital in Kathmandu.

A controversial four-decade-old Japanese cult, whose first disciples were bar girls, has now found a different kind of following in Nepal - cancer patients. ...

When Western medicines failed to cure him, Okada became an active member of the Sekai Kyusei Kyo, the Church of Messianity, which taught that sufferings were caused by "dust" accumulating on the soul and could be wiped away through amulets and raising one's hand over another's forehead.

Cancer patients turn to Japanese faith healing

Hello I'm a very happy mahikari member since 13 years. I make a lot of experiences and I think everybody should have the liberty of conscience and should choose his appropriate way to go to god. You should learn more about what you are studying before writing such approximative affirmation. Cheers
Hello I am also a very happy Sukyo Mahikari member since 3 years ago. I have to agree with jane here, it's just not correct. Please if you are interested in knowing a bit more what Sukyo Mahikari is about please visit my web site, Thanks :) http://www.mysukyomahikari.org
Jane is right to a certain extent...the author of this article seems to be relying on second-hand information rather than his own experience, and has made a couple of minor mistakes in what he says about Mahikari doctrine. However, most of his information is correct. I also agree with Jane's view that everyone should be free to decide for themselves what they believe, but does that happen once one joins Mahikari? Members of Mahikari are told that divine wisdom is superior to human wisdom, and that the leader of Mahikari is the only one who knows what God's will is. Members who question the teachings are told that, if they just be obedient and give light (purification), they will eventually understand the teachings. To me, this sounds like mind control, not freedom to choose ones beliefs. Sure, look at Tom's site if you want to know more about Mahikari, but please note that the information he includes on that site is comparatively innocuous. To find out more about the full range of Mahikari teachings (and more about mind control in Mahikari) please also look at the ex-members' website at: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~skyaxe/index.html
I have been a member for 11 years, and have been actively involved in Sukyo Mahikari. I have read through both Tom's website and the website address posted by Anne. I doubt the aforesaid website can be considered the 'full range of teachings'. The information on the site is also quite outdated. For example, it fails to state that in all the countries where Sukyo Mahikari was 'investigated', the organisation came out clean. E.g. in Belgium, Sukyo Mahikari is now recognised as a religious organisation. In Australia the government has recognised Mahikari's contribution to society.
Ah, David, you quoting me as saying "full range of teachings" makes me regret that I was writing in haste. A "wider range..." would have been better. The ex-Mahikari member site does not purport to contain all the teachings of Mahikari. But let's get this back in context. The tone of the news article concerning attempts to heal cancer patients was very disparaging towards Mahikari, so first Jane, and then Tom defended Mahikari. Tom went one step further and posted a link to his pro-Mahikari site....that was why I jumped into this discussion. I imagined that readers who knew nothing about Mahikari might be interested by the implied healing effect in the news article, then look at Tom's site for more information. His site is very attractive and well-constructed, but really only talks about the most-easily digested teachings of Mahikari. Since you have been a member for 11 years, I'm sure you know that there are many teachings that Tom does NOT talk about (and that the leaders of Mahikari would not have allowed him to publish his site if he had included these). So, I suggested that any non-members who were reading this thread should also look at the ex-member site I mentioined above in order to read about some of the teachings that are not included in Tom's site. All members of Mahikari (including myself during the many years I was involved) are guilty of only talking about the "nice" parts of Mahikari when talking to outsiders so as not to "frighten them off". For example, we don't tell them that one of the prime aims of Mahikari is to prepare for a world-wide Armageddon. We might not mention that women should obey their husbands, or that we are discouraged from reading anything other than Mahikari literature, or that members of Mahikari tend to believe that something really dreadful will happen to them if they ever leave Mahikari. This is not the place to go into more examples, but there is plenty of information available on the site I mentioned.
hello there. that was a very interesting read. thank you. the link did not work for me though. :/ i have one question before i depart...would you know of any good websites about japanese culture, traditions, or hunting traditions? if you can help, you don't know how much it would mean to me. if not, it's not a problem. i still appreciate you taking your time to listen to me. ^_^ [i'm reading the book "Shipwrecks" by Akira Yoshimura...i think it was.] i'm basically looking for information that would evolve around that time period. anywho, i'll let you go now. sorry this is long. thank you again!
well i believe what was said always has its flaws even as the author mentioned aboved. i m a member in this faith for the past 16 years. I guess before any affirmative writing is involved, it is the responsibility of the author is substantiate his writings with evident. Having to disgrace the Sukyo Mahikari organization is tantamount to blasphemy. Please think about over it.. By the way david.. how have you been?

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Sukyo Mahikari. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
