Maori Christians hate queers!

Homophobia

Being the descendant of white imperialists I'm probably often insensitive to the cultural needs of oppressed indigenous peoples. But if like some of New Zealand's Maori peoples their goal for organizing, remaining a coherent body is to refuse gay men and women their ordinary social, political and personal needs then I'd just as soon see them swept into the dustbin of history.

"Enough is enough," chanted an estimated 6000 supporters of controversial church group Destiny New Zealand as they marched on parliament.

The Destiny demonstrators were accused of trying to intimidate their rivals, a 2000-strong group of gay protesters, but church leader Brian Tamaki, a gleaming-toothed Maori man wearing large gold rings, said his group was supported by "all commonsense New Zealanders"

.

"It is right and natural to uphold and protect family, the institution of marriage, and of course our children and grandchildren," Mr Tamaki said.

The protesters said it was about love, but some onlookers compared the Enough is Enough march by thousands of Destiny Church followers to the rise of Nazism. ..

.

Women and children followed the men, none of whom were prepared to tell The Dominion Post what they had had enough of. ...

But his offer to help Prime Minister Helen Clark write "a healthy family policy" is unlikely to be accepted.

"I'm surprised he's asked," Miss Clark said. "Because I recall four years ago that he commented that having two New Zealand women leaders at the time was New Zealand falling for the work of the devil."

I am sorry that people professing to be Christians may hate someone, whether homosexual or otherwise. That is not biblical. We are to hate the sin of homosexuality and immoral sex, but they should not hate any person for any reason. Please accept my apology on behalf of the Christian community...for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD.
i was angry that destiny church used maoridom as a messenger to put there protest across, i saw most were of maori decent but didnt really see the kaumatua or kuia of old of who we listen to when saying karakia. those prayers (karakia )never disreputed anyone they just let us know that living or dead we had prayer to help comfort us in everyway never condeming.it was wrong for destiny church to think they could lead there march with (i dont even know what to call them )maori warriors, i hope they got rangatira consent probably had the cheek to ask the elders if they could represent....not the pastor either, he or i dont recall his mana anywhere..... they or in noway do they represent maoridom.....even the media said it was a maori protest....nott... there haka should have been kept inside there church, it was probably cancelled in tauranga because all the other maoris there would have spat the dummy at there own cuzzys once again destiny church does not represent maoridom......to me its like all our elders have been shoved out the door with our tikanga to let this church full of maoris throw it all away, there not preaching the days of old that our elders are teaching i dont see them sitting on marae( korero maori na karakia) i feel for our elders most dont or cant understand whats up with the hands in the air buzz just not them so why sould a new generation come through and disrupt making the old people think it was all for nothing ( tikanga is for ever )
A bit dishonest. An important omission from this story "Maori Christians" is that the church members involved were demonstrating against a particular parliamentary bill. This proposed legislation was to let gays have full legal marriages just like husband-and-wife. Unless this is mentioned it gives a wrong impression. I thought the way he described Brian Tamaki, the Church leader, was a bit dishonest too -- sounded like some bizarre person, "gleaming-toothed" and so on. Sounded like some tribal relic. Tamaki's just a fairly ordinary New Zealander. I'd prefer it if he washed his hair more often. He cultivates the motorbike gang member image. There are interesting things about Tamaki and his church. Like, he has shot to national notice via a well-funded TV programme (allegedly fuinded via church members' titheing 10% of income to the church), and has political aspirations. Other people with the same family name have shot to prominence in other well-funded ways. Another Tamaki running a minor tourism operation has been unexpectedly blessed with a lot of free magazine space and free TV prime-time editorial (always nice when you are running a business)... This letter, the "Maori Christians Hate Gays" one, gives me the impression the gays must have lined up hundreds of rent-a-writers to assail every world outpost with frantic writings for the Bill and against Tamaki's opposition to it. Destiny Church does have some interesting aspects, as I indicated - but all of these were omitted from this rave. Their protest march to parliament was a lot more dignified than the extravagant gay response to it, I think.
Brian Tamaki acts the priest but his political agenda is a local version of far right ultra conservatism. Has fascist undertones
Why is it thatleaves you kid of "Destiny" people are allowed to judge? Is it not only up to god, And why are you kind of "Destiny" people allowed to call them QUEER! I am not gay or queer as you say, I barely even no anyone gay. I am 16 years old and still attend high school. All I am trying to say is that why do yous be against them. Is it wrong for them to be the real person the are? Is it wrong for them to not be atracted to another sex, even though in the words of god that maybe a sin, but so is stealing, lying, cheating and Judging. Should't that be left up to God on judgement day or is it up to Destiny! The people lving today and everyone else out there willing to say thats wrong and queer, everybody has committed a sin, please don't think that this is Hate letter because it is not, imnot trying to bully you or be racist, i just kind of ended up on ths page some how and yes decided to say what I think. I actually admire what you have done for you people your church it is really generous and forfilling, I think that it is much appreciated. I just don't understand why they can't be themselves as it is not actually their fault the way they are, It is how god made them. I know your doing it for the families and marriage but so what, isn;t their choice to see who they want to marry or not? Lets just say your child turns out gay? are the going to be welcome or casted out like the are a stranger, I mean "Queer". I think that gay people find it hard enough trying to come to terms that they are not the same as everyone else and for people to judge them and say the can't be married like normal people i think that that is wrong, unspoken for,A sin directed at God saying that his "gay" people he created are not good to live a normal life like everyone else. Just give them a chance.... Thank you for reading this Kind Regards, God Bless You. Shardae Please don't be offended as I am not trying to do that and I appologise if I did.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Maori Christians hate queers!. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
