Jesus himself says nothing explicitly about homosexuality

Homophobia

I'm an atheist; I'd no more turn to the Prophet Isaiah for a comment on my sexuality than I would for advice on choosing toothpaste. But some folks do worry. The BBC outlines a few of the varying interpretations on what the Testaments Old & New say about being queer.

The Bible makes very few mentions of homosexuality - lesbianism isn't mentioned at all in the Old Testament - and as the examples below show, interpretations of the verses that do exist differ hugely.

Following each of the verses below is a brief illustration of what a hardline pro- and anti-gay position might be. (Most Christians hold views somewhere in between these two stances.)

BBC: What does the Bible actually say about being gay?

Long ago the story of Noah’s son finding daddy hung-over and naked was used to justify slavery.

Homosexuality is mentioned in the bible as a matter of fact: Do you not know that the unrighteous[Or [wrongdoers] ] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality 1 Cor. 6:9 Why do you think the homosexual lifestyle is lonely and painful? ....not part of God's plan. Inheriting the kingdom of God means eternal life in heaven.....eternal life is too long to be wrong, brother. I am very burdened to see people being decieved into what they think is right or moral. The bible is the best book to refer to; it's the same yesterday, today and forever and it is always black and white and never wavering........... God Bless you......
Well, buddy, that wasn't Jesus saying that was it? What makes you think being gay is lonely or painful in the 21st century?

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Jesus himself says nothing explicitly about homosexuality. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
