Fundagelicals invade SF to warn of same-sex marriage damnation

Homophobia

As [Mayor Gavin] Newsom went on with his day, more than 100 evangelicals stood on the City Hall steps and unfurled a banner that proclaimed, "We All Agree -- Marriage = 1 Man and 1 Woman.''

Local fundamentalist lunatic Rev. Chuck McIlhenny said:

"Anyone who speaks out against homosexuality is discriminated against. Churches are firebombed. It happens in San Francisco ... "

The Mayor didn't appear to be worried about the promised wrath of God.

This story is depressing. I wonder what the reward is for being so stupid, for giving up so much of time, energy and determination . . . the reward for this kind of demented snuffling in other peoples' crotches escapes me. More tickets in the raffle of heavenliness? Timeshares in beachfront condos in Paradise. Kudos from the lardassed leaders back at Temple drive-in? Anyhow, in less depressing news, our most famous gay politico, Svend Robinson, had a terrible day a couple of days ago. With his lover/partner (they are not married yet), he called a press conference to announce that he wasn't running for Parliament again; he had inexplicably stolen some jewellery from an auction; he had turned himself into the RCMP; he was taking medical leave for stress. The next day an outpouring of support, in editorials and from his opposing politicos (he is a socialist). Everyone wished him well. A nice coda to a very sad moment in his life. It might be that he turned out to be a kind of "our gay." Criticize him for his politics, for his atheism, for his outspoken showboating, but get behind him when he is in personal crisis. I was surprised and heartened.
