Christian School Banishes Child of Lesbian Parents

Homophobia

Christian morality has historically been quite inventive. If you have one parent who isn't a sinner you can learn about Jesus in this Christian school. But if both are ungodly, well, I guess you and your parents can just go to Hell.

"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, Shay's biological mother.

The school's policy states that at least one parent cannot engage in practices "immoral or inconsistent with a positive Christian life style such as cohabitating without marriage or in a homosexual relationship," Stob wrote.

Christian School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents

Comments

Look on this page from the schools website. http://www.ocschools.org/about/admissions.cfm Apparently they require a "Family Interview". I wonder if the interview took place if the parents lied to get her in the school. I also wonder if she was prostelysing the homosexual lifestyle at the football game.
There's no indication that the girl is gay. Just her parents. "Prostelysing" - is this where you think human sexuality comes from?
Richard, studies showing clear biological differences of people with different sexual orientations are based off men in the early 90s. Women's sexuality is much more nurture than nature. That being said, I used the wrong words. I should have just said that somehow her family situation got brought up.
none of you guys can read, because it says that at least one parent "cannot" engage in an immoral lifestyle, that means that if one of your parents is engaging in an immoral lifestyle, then you are not eligable for admission. Does not matter is one is living living a moral lifestyle. And yes, every family gets an interview or you cannot attend OC, my family had to have an interview and each person at the school went through one. That means the girls mom probabbly lied to the school about her living and marital status, which is by itself grounds for expulson, but she wasn't actually expelled, but rather asked to leave.
The way the story was written it read to me that if there were a parent that wasn't "immoral" the child would be found fit to be near Christians. My error.
Please, what is all the uproar about? It is a private Christian school, the students mother obviosly did not meet the requirements of the school. This is not an attack on the student by the school, her mother put her in this situation and now blames the school. I heard an interviev with the mother this morning and her words where" if I would have known that they didn't accept homosexual parents I wouldn't have enroled her in the first place". Please!! she didn't know a Christian school didn't agree with homosexuality? XBG
Uproar is putting it a bit too wildly. Nor denying the right of a private institution to enforce policies. It simply amused me that the pious folks ban children because of their parents. Given Christian rhetoric one might have expected them to have wanted to imbue the girl with their faith. This is likely my last response on this topic. Anyone – on either side naturally – is welcome to post whatever they wish.
Ok, this is unbelievable. What in the world were the gay parents thinking, putting her in a Christian school anyway? They obviously don't agree with Christians on this issue. I have to wonder if they were trying to set up the school for a high profile lawsuit. "Tolerance" is only acceptable in one direction from the politically active gay community. Where is the tolerance for Christians to practice their beliefs (at a PRIVATE institution!!!!)
Hmm... it's too bad that the school does not see itself as ministers of the Gospel to the world... they seem to see themselves as "by Christians for Christians." I wonder what they do with Matthew 9, Mark 2, and Luke 5 & 19????? Cal Thomas, the former leader of the Christian Coalition, stated on the occasion of his resignation that his organization and those like it had done more to damage the cause of Christ than any other in the history of the church. This is another example. This "family" is most likely lost for Christ as a result of this action. There was a reason why those women decided to have their daughter in this school, and now God's purpose in that situation has been ruined. Good thing that He is a loving and stubborn God who won't give up on reaching them with His love! I am a follower of Christ, and believe what scripture says about sin. I also believe what it says about sinners and how we, as Christ followers, are to relate to them.
Right. From my point of view what the school did was a 'good' thing. Anything that makes a Christian institution look bad works for my side.
Setting the school up for a lawsuit...? Then why did the parents not pursue this "setting up" when their older child attended the school? That statement is so inflammatory and designed to cast aspersions on the family. How unChristian. Christian does mean Christ-like, and yet too many so-called Christians cast out the very people they should be welcoming. IF being gay is so sinful, why wouldn't they keep the NON-GAY daughter in the school to give her the Christian teaching they obviously feel is lacking at home? I think it is shameful that the school is judging others this way, and shameful that it is punishing the child for the alleged sins of the mother(s). Divorce is a sin in the bible... have they expelled the children of divorced people? Where is the line drawn?
Show me where the Bible says divorce is a sin. Jesus' father nearly divorced his mother before he was born. I though it was ironic that the mother accused the school of being happy to take her money for the older daughter and never made a ruckus about her then. Obviously nobody knew. If money was an issue, then why do they suddenly do a 180 with the younger daughter. Seems like a spiteful comment by mommy. She also said if she knew that there were a bunch of bigots, she wouldn't have sent her kid there to start with. What? Unfortunately, I think the school is right, but handled the situation poorly. I think the daughter is an innocent victim, but the school can't keep the kid and remove the parents. I don't understand why they want to pursue legal action....must be just for the $$$.
I have an issue with the idea of a caste system. I believe that Jesus would have a problem with that similar idea. This whole contraversy isn't about what a private institution can and cannot do. If this school wants to have these rules, let them. It only shows their ignorance and discriminatory nature that I see cropping up all too often in the christian world. Here is the Webster definition of caste: 3 : a system of rigid social stratification characterized by hereditary status, endogamy, and social barriers sanctioned by custom, law, or religion Basically, they are not only disliking the sinner, but the sinner's biological children. Is that what christianity and brotherhood are about? I distinctly do not remember Jesus every preaching anything even CLOSE to this type of rhetoric when he spoke, nor in his actions, nor in his deeds, nor in anything he ever did. I wish christians would wake up and realize that christianity isn't an exclusive brotherhood, Jesus said it was open to all who opened their hearts unto him, no caveats, no quid pro quo, no to quo quay, just open your hearts. When will christians begin to follow this? When they do, I might actually want to call myself one. Until then, I will follow the bible.
Ocer U Can't read. Posted by: OC-er on September 25, 2005 05:07 PM at least one parent cannot engage in practices “immoral or inconsistent with a positive MEANS THAT AT LEAT 1 , UNO, NUMEROS UNO MUST MOT BE ENGAGED . . .. THE WORD "AT LEAST" IS IS BEING USED TO MODIFY PARENTS. IF IT MEANT NEITHER PRENT IT WOULD HAVE SAID ID EITHER PARENTS ARE ENGAGED. MORON! EX. IF YOU HAVE 1 WHO WAS A DRUG ADDICT AND THE OTHER WAS CLEAN, YOUR CHILD COULD ATTEND SCHOOL. FRANK
When something like this happens people who know very little about the bible begin to overreact. The real question is What does the girl believe? If, because of her upbringing, she firmly believes that homosexuality is o.k., then she should be asked to leave. She could, in private or public, use her beliefs to sabatoge the other students. Homosexuality is wrong!!!! Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:24-27. This does not mean that we should hate homosexuals, we all are sinners after all (Romans 3:23), but we can't condone the behavior.
my family has had their own problems with OC. There moto has been...if you ain't Dutch you ain't much. I would like to know how many parents who are straight who have had affairs and others knew about it. Did their kids get kicked out? And what about the white dutch kid who beat up the kid who was black because he was black and didn't get kicked out of school? Alot goes on and goes unnoticed. Good for this "Family" for taking action... I think there is something in the Bible that says, let he without sin cast the first stone. I support the lawsuit against OCS. OCS needs to open their eyes to what they really teach because it is not the Bible teachings at all. And, there should be alot more lawsuits against the school. I could tell you stories.
