Archbishop Peter Akinola's search for power

Homophobia

Archbishop Peter Akinola continues his attack on the US Episcopal Church. It is also an attempt to give him control over American Episcopalians.

He once called the trend a "satanic attack" on the church. But he said he could not accept attempts to "superimpose your modern culture on Scripture" by ignoring what he said were Biblical injunctions against gay sex.

"I didn't write the Bible. It's part of our Christian heritage. It tells us what to do," Akinola said.

'I didn't write the Bible'

Comments

I was raised in the Anglican church, on two continents. As a child I was taken to church by my parents. When I became old enough to make my own decisions I chose not to practice religion but I do believe in a power greater than myself. According to the Bible, which I no longer view as a devine book, homosexuality is a sin. This is not homophobic thinking - its simply the nature of the culture that created the religion. It seems as though a lot of people are trying to make religion conform to their thinking or way of life instead of conforming to the teachings and rituals of their religion. If you don't believe what they believe, don't belong to their church!

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Archbishop Peter Akinola's search for power. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
