Canada & America are like fire & ice

Hodgepodge

[Michael] Adams, author of Fire And Ice: The United States And Canada And The Myth Of Converging Values, painted a statistical portrait of Canadians as quite distinct from Americans. While both groups say they identify highly with people who put family above all else, Canadians reject hierarchies and paternalistic values he said.

For example, 49 per cent of Americans polled say the father of the family must be "master in his own house" while 18 per cent of Canadians agreed. Another difference between the two countries: 22 per cent of Canadians go to church every Sunday, compared to 42 per cent of Americans; 22 per cent of Canadians own guns, compared to 49 per cent of Americans.

Canada and the United States have very different attitudes to religion
