Sir Ian McKellen on Westminster Abbey & The Da Vinci Code
• Gossip , • The Da Vinci Code
Westminster Abbey has refused to allowing filming for The Da Vinci Code movie. The official explanation:
... commend or endorse the contentious and wayward religious and historical suggestions made in the book - nor its views of Christianity and the New Testament.
Sir Ian McKellen suspects they wanted more money.
The Dean of Lincoln Cathedral - which will serve as a stand-in for Westminster - says:
"It is not blasphemous in that it does not denigrate God in any way … The Da Vinci Code stimulates debate and the search for truth and we are glad to be part of this process."
Now I'm an atheist but I'd have to say the book is blasphemous (not that I care). Of course the Cathedral is getting one hundred thousand pounds.
I quite like Sir Ian, not only is he handsome at 66:
When staying in hotels the actor will take it upon himself to rip out pages of the Bible that are critical of homosexuality.
Money, not Christianity, behind abbey's rejection of Da Vinci Code, says Sir Ian
