HERE IS MY REVIEW VIA suarezrafaelalexander@yahoo.com, TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: *ALEXANDER THE GREAT*: TO BE HONEST SOME SCENES ARE A LITTLE SLOW, SUCH IS STONE'S WAY, HIS CINEMATIC STYLE SO-TO-SAY, OF COURSE WHAT MAKES THIS PARTICULAR FILM UNIQUE IS THAT IT IS ACTUALLY EUROPEAN-MADE, THE MAN WHO PLAYS ALEXANDER, COLIN FARWELL, AN ECCENTRIC INDEPENDENT IRISH ACTOR, ADMITS AFTER THE MOVIE IT HAS CAUSED A PROFOUND CHANGE IN HIM, AS THE PORTRAYAL INSPIRES HIS INTELLECT ON THE HISTORY OF HIS CHARACTER. THE DIRECTOR, OLIVER STONE, A FRENCH-CITIZEN OF AMERICAN DECENT, CONTRIBUTE TO THE MORE INDEPENDENT FEELING IN THE NATURE OF THE FILM, THIS OF COURSE ALSO AS A RESULT OF THE UNDERTAKING & BACKED-SUPPORT OF THE TRIOS (UK, FRANCE & GERMANY). THE SO-CALLED: *SLOW PARTS*, ARE SIMPLE DEMONSTRATING THE GRADUAL PROCESS OF CONQUEST ALEXANDER EXPERIENCES IN HIS SHORT-LIFE, THEN OTHER SCENES REPRESENT ABSOLUTE GREATNESS & ARE TOTALLY SPECTACULAR IN NATURE, AS ALEXANDER GALLUPS ON HIS MYTHOLOGICAL HORSE OF PASSION, & THESE SCENES NO DOUBT GIVES YOU THE UTTER MOST CHILLS. STONE'S FILMS TYPICALLY LEAVE YOU WITH THE WILL TO SEE THEM AGAIN & INEVITABLY PICK UP ON ASPECT OF THE FILM YOU DID NOT ORIGINALLY REALIZE, HOWEVER, I MUST ADMIT THE DIRECTOR MIS-INTERPRETS THE DIVERSE MEANINGS OF LOVE IN THE GREEK LANGUAGE, AS THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF WAYS TO EXPRESS LOVE IN THE LATINE-GREEK TONGUES, FOR EACH MEMBER OF THE FAMILY & FRIENDSHIP GROUPING, THIS MISINTERPRETATION ESPECIALLY COMES WHEN IT COMES TO ALEXANDER'S CLOSEST MALE COMPANIONS, WHOM HE NO DOUBT TO ME LOVED AS BROTHERS & NOTHING ELSE. THE SOFT-UNDER-TONES STONE PORTRAYS ALONG WITH THE IMPLICATIONS OF CONSPIRACIES, HAS CAUSED MUCH CONTROVERSY IN PRACTICALLY ALL OF HIS FILMS, SUCH IS ALMOST TOO PREDICTABLE & INEVITABLE IN HIS STYLE. Mom Dear Mom: Perhaps you could make your opinions clear as I have, as they seemed pretty vague when you expressed them to me over the phone, I would appreciate that, as your opionions always mean a lot to me, as ours are so similar as mother & son. Of course I know you are not against peoples sexual preference, but I understand why you did not like those particular scenes, seeing as we have such similar tastes I can see where you are going with this. I agree with you that Mr. Stone had misinterpreted the various-diverse Greek meanings of love in many instances, which is why it has sparked such controversy all over the world most especially in Greece herself. This, as well as the inevitable slow scenes, whoms importance cannot be picked up or quite realized sufficiently without seeing the movie more then once, such is Stone's cinemagraphic style as almost an inevitablity as so clearly explained, anyone familiar with his films can expect this along with conspiracy-theories & other forms of controversy that add passion to the very movie & story itself, leaving room for progressive interpretation & profound debate, as his own truth to history is shown, his own version before his own eyes made clear, which has invariably shown such intergrity in art because he knows well these scenes will not please most of his viewers, who will inevitably forgive him for such imperfection in comparison to the rest of the utter most unique film that can be compared to no other as he himself very well knows, as a genius in his own right. All together these falts I point out in the beginning of my review show the first impression, as these scenes consumed maybe 10% of the movie, incomparable to the other 90% represented out of the spactacular & realistic scenes of profound historical significance & importance inevitably. I must admit I have always had a great respect for Oliver Stone, no other director could have portrayed Alexander in 3 hours with such resources like he did. By the way, my last message was just a rough draft I demonstrated out of sheer from the moment kind of thing, my conclusions drawn in context on a sort of preview sample of my review where shown to my special contacts, as you where of course on the top of my list. I totally left out the parts of the uniting of the tribes & the importance of the marriage to the Persian Roxana, & the contributions he made to each region to expand Greek education, civlizations, libraries, to the local economies, etc. How he forbid any type of harm to the people after victory, on the contrary he took them as his own family & loved them compassionately so. Making him undeniably more then a conqueror but a liberator. Anyways, I did not want to give too much away for those who where not too familiar with the history of Alexander in the first place. I think it is none-other-then arrogant to claim that you know the lifestyle of the people in Greece 400 years before Christ better then the Greeks themselves. If Oliver Stone, a man I admire greatly, offered me to play Alexander, I would except without hesitation or any conditions of any kind, while playing that role I myself would have the integrity to made clear to the director that I did not believe Alexander loved his comrades any more then brothers. However, everyone is free to their opinions, I just wanted to make mine.
