North Carolina Baptists worse than ever

Christian Fundamentalism

The conservatives have gained control of North Carolina's Southern Baptist Convention. Boy, are they having fun:

The Baptist State Convention declined to give money to a fledgling moderate-leaning congregation in Hendersonville led by a female pastor. A similar fight played out in Brunswick County.

The handling of McGill Baptist Church in Concord, which was thrown out of the convention earlier this year after baptizing two men who were believed to be gay. Moderates say they didn't like the way the convention removed McGill without telling the church.

There's talk that the moderate church might move to their own convention but their are complicated financial issues in support of things like keeping the retirement homes funded.

Comments

Another reason for me to leave this twisted little state as soon as humanly possible. You do know about that little phrase in the NC Constitution don't you? Article VI Section 8: Disqualifications of office. The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.
That sort of thing is on many state constitutions. Left from long ago. They are akin to the foolish old laws against, say, shooting at mooses from trolley cars.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about North Carolina Baptists worse than ever. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
