Jesus vs. Jack O'Lantern

Christian Fundamentalism

Mark Poff of New Harvest Ministries' Preaching Christ Church in Kingsport said he hopes to get 3 million signatures on the petition that he is circulating. If he gets enough support, Poff said, he will approach school boards and ask for changes in their policies.

''From a Christian standpoint in the school systems, we've had prayer taken away, the Ten Commandments and things of that nature ... since we have infringed on atheists' rights. Next year we are going to have 3 million signatures that say if any sign of Halloween is plastered in the schoolrooms, in the halls, then they are infringing on our rights,'' Poff said.

Evangelist on quest to ban schools from observing Halloween

Comments

I am mother of two children and celebrate pagan beliefs and traditions. I feel that if we truely want schools to stick clearly to acedemics then the proposal to keep halloween from our classrooms is perfectly valid. There are very distinct differences is seasonal decorations and halloween decorations. As with limiting schools acedemic responsibilities to arithmetic, language arts, historical facts, geography, scientific methodology and computer science. I see an ever growing atmosphere of giving the reponsibility of raising our children by character building, citizenship, compulsary attendance at age 3 or 4. Which I am sure are helpful to families that don't actually function together, but the majority would like to still have some say as to what and when their children learn. I did get a little off track from the original topic, but they are all interwoven. It is the parents responsibility to raise your child and its your right. Stand up for your beliefs and make sure you are not imposing upon someone elses in the process.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Jesus vs. Jack O'Lantern. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
