90 million fundagelicals

Christian Fundamentalism

The poll is well worth reading. I'm quoting this chunk partly because I'm gay and partly because it matches the quoted article's headline. But it is an interesting look at the fundamentalist, evangelical, charismatic,born-again subculture and their silly persecution complex.

Evangelical Christians oppose homosexual "marriages," but prefer the practice be outlawed through state laws rather than a constitutional amendment, according to a poll released yesterday.

An estimated 32 percent of Americans — nearly 90 million — are evangelicals, the largest group in American Protestantism.

Evangelicals prefer that states outlaw gay 'marriage'

what seems to be lost in the argument is that there is love in relationship and that has nothing to do with gender. I happen to be of a very small minority being a monogamous hetereosexual man. It would seem that minorities have a bigger say than the majority these days. Whatever happened to live and let live? Alan
It was good to read your note. I am also a happilly married heterosexual man. I also happed to be,(or was), a moderate Christian for most of my life. The "fundigels", however, have pretty much soured me on Christianity as a whole. I work at an HIV case management agency & I have witnessed several good, loving gay relationships. I have also witnessed bad ones. Personally I think the quality of a relationship or a person's ability to love does not seem to have to do much w/ their sexual preference. Why the focus on this issue by the fundimentalists? It seems to me that they focus on a couple of lines from Paul & skip the entire Sermon on the Mount. They love Revelations & the idea of watching homosexuals, sinners, & non Christians burning in hell while suspended in mid air during the "Rapture",(a notion I find more horrifying than any sexual practice I can think of.) I want no part of a God or people who promote the joys of watching what ammounts to an eternal snuf film as their idea of heaven. Anyway, I cannot discount the evidence of my own experiences for a few hate filled, flat earth odd balls who unfortunately control my government & constitute 32 persent of the population.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about 90 million fundagelicals. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
