Virginia revives Blue Laws
• Cheap Laughs
Blue Laws were once very popular here in the South. Many didn't just mandate a day of rest for employees but forbad stores from evening opening on Sundays. Last time I encountered them was as a teenagers when the addled Lester Maddox was Governor of Georgia and felt led by the Holy Spirit to revive them. One of his less popular moves.
The Virginia General Assembly accidentally revived that state's Blue Laws recently. Here's one worker's reaction.
Jonathan Larson, an employee of the Bible Factory Outlet in Leesburg, said he and his colleagues at the store would like to have Sundays off to go to church.
"None of us want to work there on Sundays. I believe God has instilled a law in which we should take a rest," he said. "It makes sense that the human body isn't made to work seven days straight."
Kind of funny that the Bible Outlet (?) won't give them time to go church.
