Cheap Laughs

I own a comics shop. You won't find these on sale there.

"PowerMark," a comic book series created by Assemblies of God missionary Steve Benintendi, features cross-emblazoned Capt. Mark Chen, who battles the evil organization Leviathan while creating virtual-reality Bible stories for children on a Star Trek-style Holodeck. Nearly 1 million copies have been distributed worldwide since the series was introduced in 2000.

"Amazing True Life Stories," another comic book series, features inspirational tales of real-life figures, including Bill Coram, a hit man turned Christian. The publisher, Kansas-based Crosswind Comics, has distributed 38,000 copies of the first two issues to prisons and juvenile detention centers nationwide.

"Anointed," published last October and available online through Community Comics, introduces Ephraim, an angel sent from God, and Luke Steward, a youth pastor who has visions of immoral acts taking place in the lives of people he knows. ...

One of the oddest offerings is "Spells: Black Christmas," a dark cartoon featuring three witches who travel back in time to play a practical joke on baby Jesus. On seeing the child in the manger, they are transformed and return home to do good in the world.
