Bless their gutless, superstitous born-again hearts.

The number 666, which many Christians recognize as the "mark of the beast," is appearing on movie tickets for Gibson's film at a Georgia theater, drawing complaints from some moviegoers. ...

Several patrons have made comments about the numbers, and one person who was uncomfortable having 666 on her ticket asked for a pass to be substituted for a ticket.

My wife and I went to see the Passion. I thought the movie was too intense and that Mel Gibson went too far in depicting the suffering and punishment that Jesus received. I don’t think that any man could endure that kind of punishment and live to walk another mile or So with a heavy cross to be crucified on it. He would have surely died during the scourging and whippings in the court yard. I think Mel Gibson had a touch of insanity when he made these scenes. During the movie my wife grabbed for me several times with tears in her eyes because of the unbelievable beatings that Jesus was receiving. My stomach was in a knot and I became very nauseous. When the movie was over my wife and I could not leave our seats until we regained our composure. When we walked out of the theater I looked at my wife, her face was white as a sheet. I felt anger at Mel Gibson because I refuse to believe that Jesus was punished almost beyond recognition and still able to carry his cross up stairways and over rocks and after losing all that blood. I think Mr. Gibson in your quest to make millions on this picture you forgot to include the reality of life and death and one’s endurance to sustain the brutality you showed on a human body even upon Jesus himself. I would not recommend this movie to children and those of you that are weak-hearted it will leave a lasting impression on you for time to come. I never want to see the Passion again, nor will I permit any CD’s of tapes of that nature in my home. God help you Mr. Mel Gibson.
I think it very likely that Mr. Gibson used information from the shroud of Turin in making his film. According to the shroud Christ received 120 scourge wounds from the Roman Flagrum. An instrument so severe use of it was forbidden on Roman citizens. The shroud also shows 70 wounds on the scalp. The scourging would have therefore been extremely severe. Christ, don't forget, did not survive as long as the criminals crucified beside him. Their legs were broken to hasten their death. Mr.Gibson follows the bible exactly. If there are any complaints about this film, and it's severity or in how it portrays the Jews, then those who are outraged should be outraged at the bible and not at Mr. Gibson.
1. There is no proof whatsoever that the Shroud of Turin is anything but a medieval forgey. Since the results of the research were announced several years back, many have tried do disprove the findings with the most specious of reasoning and failed. So let's not muddy the waters with this issue. 2. I have seen the Gibson movie (without troubling my conscience by putting a penny in Gibson's pocket I might add - paid for two "Starsky & Hutch" tickets and walked into the screen showing "Passion")and I have also read The Bible many times. The Gospel according to Mel departs significantly from any Gospel I have ever read. To claim he follows The Bible "exactly" is ludicrous.
In response to the Boltguy letter posted on March 30th.You have obviously not read the Bible if you claim that Mel Gibson's movie is inaccurate. You might want to try reading the Gospel according to Matthew someday. Maybe you tried, good for you! but you have failed in your comprehension. Anyone who would spend money on a Starsky and Hutch movie probably has a very difficult time reading anything at all let alone the Bible. You should do a little more research as you are unclear on information regarding the Shroud of Turin.
