Pope John Paul II indicated that Sen John Kerry and other Catholic politicians should be refused Communion

Catholic

Crazy conservative Catholics like the American Life League are hoping they can control wicked liberal politicians like John Kerry.

Last fall, a committee of bishops led by Washington Cardinal Theodore McCarrick began studying ways to respond to Catholic politicians whose work violates church teaching. Their options range from excommunication, which McCarrick said he does not favor, to such lesser sanctions as making Catholic schools and hospitals off-limits for public appearances.

Vatican again ties religion, politics

Comments

As a Catholic, I feel that the Pope and other religious leaders are correct in their refusal of Communion to John Kerry. He didn't just vote for abortion, but Partial-Birth abortion, which is one of the cruelest practices I've ever heard of. The Catholic Church is completely, unwaveringly, decidedly Pro-Life. Kerry could have chosen to abstain from voting on this issue if his beliefs were different from his constituents, but he chose to vote, and supported abortion. Abortion, in the eyes of the Catholic Church (and my own) is Murder, and murder is a mortal sin, so I believe that the church had every right to refuse communion to leaders who vote pro-choice. I believe that although ultimately, a person's faith is between them and their God, the Catholic Church is not required to give communion to anyone.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Pope John Paul II indicated that Sen John Kerry and other Catholic politicians should be refused Communion. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
