Pope Benedict XVI on South Park

Catholic

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is raising a fuss about a South Park episode entitled Bloody Mary.

The episode revolves around a nearby town's discovery that a statue of the Virgin Mary has begun bleeding. The event is dubbed a miracle and the people flock to see the statue, including Pope Benedict XVI, who ultimately pronounces that the statue is simply menstruating.

Comments

For Christsake ... the "virgin Mary" is 1) just a statue 2) a mistranslation (the original word simply meant "maiden", not "virgin"), and 3) probably never existed as a real person. It's bad enough that Christians waste their time and energy and corrupt their intellects on this malarkey, but they insist that the rest of us must, too. Things are really upside down when those who tell the truth about these matters are castigated and their rights to speech are curtailed. I find the propagation of mythical blather personally offensive, but you won't find me demanding that "Tower of Power" and the rest of the garbage be taken off the air. If these Christians really believe their own guff, they should be freely turning their cheeks toward Parker and Stone. But no, they are hypocrites all.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Pope Benedict XVI on South Park. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
