Pope Benedict XVI on evolution

Catholic

He said he had no problem with mainstream biologists conception of evolutionary theory. Then he said:

Indeed, in the homily at his installation just a few weeks ago, Benedict proclaimed: "We are not some casual and meaningless product of evolution. Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary."

Finding Design in Nature

Hello, this is my first time visiting your site. I have some questions how do these two ideas conflict? Also, where does Pope Benedict the XVI say is alright with mainstream conception of evolutionary theory (for comparison only)? Thank you.
Hello again, before I do not think I saw the Finding Design in Nature article that is beneath your post, but I can not see any conflict between this and the quote you presented. I sincerly believe that you would not want your readers to acquiesce to this conflict without reason, or its there a misunderstanding? An engaged reader, J H
I too am unsure where the conflict is. Evolution describes a process. It says nothing about how that process got started. It's conceivable that a "god" put evolution in motion, is it not? Dan p.s. Thanks for the opportunity for reasoned dialogue - a refreshing change from traditional media.
The above statement is indeed a wise statement. Perhaps intellegent design is in fact absolutly correct, and the mechanism through which these designs were created is biological evolution. Regardless of what the design is, they had to have been constructed from simpler parts. Perhaps it was the intent of this "intellegence," to create a physical system which would lead to evolution toward the human form. Why can't these two theories get along?

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Pope Benedict XVI on evolution. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
