Genevieve Beney

Catholic

Genevieve Beney has declared herself a priest in the Roman Catholic Church. Even though I'm an atheist I say more power to her. The ban on female clergy is nothing more than antiquated sexism. I wonder did she also take a vow of celibacy, yet another sad Roman Catholic practice?

The Archbishop of Lyon, Philippe Barbarin, urged Beney earlier this week not to follow through with her plan, saying it "will constitute a serious act of rupture in respect to the Catholic Church."

"There will be no truth to the words that will be pronounced," Barbarin said. "For many Catholics, this will be a source of useless injury and suffering."

A spokesman for the archbishop, Vincent Feroldi, said that no decree of excommunication would technically be necessary since Beney's act violates church law and automatically makes her incapable of receiving the sacraments, such as communion.

French Woman Ordains Herself a Priest

Comments

Hilarious - another example of the "Me Me Me" Mentality. She ordained HERSELF? She may have, but she did not ordain herself a Roman Catholic Priest. Roman Catholic Priests do not ordain themselves and the Roman Catholic Church does not ordain women as priests. She may have ordained herself, but she is not a Roman Catholic priest. That is just plain silly, self-centered and goofy.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Genevieve Beney. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
