Claiming he was in purgatory rather than a Cambridge courtroom, accused mass killer Michael ``Mucko'' McDermott matter-of-factly explained away his deadly rampage, saying he believed he was storming through a German bunker killing Nazis, not his terrified co-workers.
``I believed the fastest way to kill them was with a bullet through the brain,'' McDermott said yesterday, describing how he killed the first two ``Nazis'' he encountered when he was transported back in time from the Edgewater Technology lobby to 1940 Berlin.
The two victims were actually receptionist Janice Hagerty and human resources vice-president Cheryl Troy.
While horrified victims' relatives rushed out of the courtroom in disgust, McDermott described a fantastic scene in which he was a time-traveling superhero, eradicating the world of six Nazi generals and Hitler to stop the Holocaust and save his own soul.
The Nazi executions were the triumphant finale to a twisted prophecy handed to him by St. Michael the Archangel two weeks before the Dec. 26, 2000 rampage at the Wakefield office, he said.
