About

This is the first draft of what will be this weblog's about page. A page I can point the pious and self-deluding to when they ask me why I don't love Jesus or worship at the feet of the wiccan Goddess who arrived in a UFO with Bigfoot and gave us the psychic powers we'd be able to use if it weren't for the evil government conspiracy.

Comments and suggestions from the likeminded are welcome. (Hopefully I'll eventually catch all the grammatical goofs myself.) Thanks.

Weblog FAQ

What do you mean; gullibility is in my dictionary.
Only a gullible person would bother to open their dictionary and check.

Who does this?
My name is on every entry.

Why do you do it?
Ignorance is funny, clarity rare. (Also Why weblog?).

You're a queer aren't you?
Queer, gay, fag, homo, pansexual are all labels I'll answer to. Homophobic comments are deleted.

I'm an atheist. If I weren't skittish about neologisms I might call myself I'm an anti-theist. The existence of God, gods, an intelligent First Cause, conscious nature, psychic powers, immortal souls, intelligent beings from other worlds that want to play unintelligent games with us are all questions that hold no interest for me.

Do you believe in life after death?
Did you read the preceding paragraph?

How can you live feeling that?
Been happily doing so for decades. Just because you are a weakling doesn't mean that I am.

This weblog is for kindred intelligent people who are equally entertained and appalled by the ignorance of the majority. It doesn't matter if they call themselves atheists, skeptics, Brights, agnostics or have their own home-brewed label.

God-crazed Christians and spirit-drunk new agers find themselves here. You silly folk are welcome to browse. Don't hope to engage me in debate. Arguing with the deluded was fun at eighteen. I'm much older, only have so many more years left and better ways to spend them.

If you really would like an explanation of my Weltanschauung you are please read the following:

Just bought a book from you off Amazon. Like your online store, like the weblog even more. You've got kindred spirits in the Midwest.
Hi, wonderful wonderful website...i've missed you on LJ and just happened to stumble across you here while looking for more on the nutty antics of Carole Caplin the Blair's "lifestyle advisor"..I've thought about you lots of times and wondered what you were up to..glad to find your site!
I am a kindred spirit but am dismayed that you said homophobic comments will be deleted. Why?
That warning appears at the bottom of all seven of my weblogs. Partly I just don't want to have "fagz can suk my dik" posted on my site. Anymore than I do "niggers are lazy." Particularly since it will get indexed by Google and draw only more homophobes and racists. Most of the comments left on my weblogs aren't in agreement with me, most of them I leave alone. But I do enforce my own idea of acceptable speech in my personal web space.
Love the sites. Glad you delete homophobic crap. Not gay myself, admit to twinges of being homophobic, but feel: "who gives a rip, it's his/her life. let them be. they ain't hurting me none, and there's PLENTY of straights out there that totally need to be removed from the gene pool, before the gays do...." So have fun. Have a good life
Some discomfort with different sexuality is probably normal if not ideal. But that isn?t the same as wanting to harm or condemning people for not conforming to some silly vision you wish to impose on the world.
Hey Richard, I just discovered your interesting blog: http://www.edifyingspectacle.org/gullibility/blog/archives/miracle_cures_health_quackery/ The subject matter at this URL is just what I'd like to see in my Anti-Quackery Ring (link below). I just discovered this site, although I was looking for something like the Independent Initiative for a long time...we must create our political organizations all over the continent in order to protect our way of life...
Richard, "Disagreement is fine but hate speech won't be tolerated. Even if you share my prejudices I'd rather you not insult other people who leave comments here." Initally, I responded to this web site because it seemed like a dynamic variety of ideas could be presented on the topic of The Order Of Christ / Sophia "Families: Religous Group uses Cult - like methods". In the reader's responses on the subject there seems to be much hateful spewing running loose: "Father” Peter Bowes is an extremely unhealthy person with a narcissitic christ complex. It’s definitely all about mind-control; not love or spiritual growth. " "Mr. Bowes group is not healthy and very dangerous." "I think the approach they take is arrogant, patronizing, defensive, secretive, and self-serving." "If you are already in, please get out now while you can still salvage relationships that are dear to you."I You state: "I'm a happily gay atheist. Homophobic, racist comments and conversion attempts are deleted. Disagreement is fine but hate speech won't be tolerated. Even if you share my prejudices I'd rather you not insult other people who leave comments here." It seems that these slanderous, mean spirited, "hate speech" comments are a field day, entertainment, a fun circus to watch. What if same comments were made in a racist, sexist, homophobic context ? You say they would be deleted. Why do you let these stay on your website? Sarai Fairchild
The sad people that belive they can buy their way to heaven are totally deceived by the same devil they claim that is in others. God doesn't need anyones money.. after all Jesus told those he sent out to preach." Don't ask any one for money since the working man deserves his living" those that say that tithing is a teaching to get into heaven is nonsense. God wants your faith and belief not your money. Money cant your way to heaven. Its not a commandment and not a teaching of Jesus. TV preachers with their stupid looking hair rugs and hill billy accents seem to be the exact opposite of Jesus teaching not to " be of the world".. because where in the world do these clowns get the money for fake stupid looking hair and $600 suits?
To quote a wise playwright: "Methinks the (lad) doth protest too much" to show he doth not care. Add to that, one-sided "ad hominem" is intellectual snobbery. But who cares anyway? Bob
Atheists utilize faith as well as reason. For examply: 1)You have faith that the linear resoning process is the highest faculty of conciusness. In that faith you assume that there is no intuition which leap-frogs over the rational mind. 2)You have faith that you have the ability to judge absolutes. Even the idea that there are no absolutes is an absolute statement. Esentially you are saying that there absolutely are no absolutes- no level of reality which superceeds or surpasses temporal subjectivity 3)You have faith in your opinions of people who belive in God. Many people have faith in God who are not fundamentalists. You can not judge an entire group by the sole example of its least cogent members. You would not like me to judge all homosexuals by the extreme behavior of the "bug chasers" or the most screwed-up gays that exist- right? Have you read Bruce Bower (Stealing Jesus)? Mainline churches are currently pitted against evangelicals and fundamentalist (smae thing really). Give these folks a chance; they are not what you have characterized and satirized as representing Christianity.
You know something that puzzles me. You bash Teen Mania and Christians but the you turn around and say people can't say negative things about your life style. or you will delete them. Isn't that what you are doing? I'm not trying to debate your way of life , but I don't think you are being fair. Of course it's your web site. BUT you did connect it with other sites. Thanks rexieman
Self declared Antitheist (sorry, no other way to put it...) IMHO there is harm inherent in certain beliefs. The cardinal harmful-toward-others belief (aka "sin"): to think of any human as less than human. This enables one to perpetrate any conceivable atrocity towards others without remorse. The cardinal harmful-toward-self belief: to believe that some entity external to one's self is dominant over one's life; ie to believe in gods and fates. This removes from a person the sense of responsibility and self-determination thus rendering them pliable and susceptible to others such as the Nazis, the PNAC (aka Neocons), religions etc.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about About. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
